Obama Is Bruce Springsteen circa 1975
"Keith last night "don't ever FOLLOW an Obama speech" conventional wisdom in the music business: "don't ever let Springsteen open for you". I was watching his speech last night and said to my wife "He's Springsteen in 1975". That year Bruce was on the covers of Time and Newsweek THE SAME WEEK and he was smoking hot.I was lucky enough to have seen him back then and I'm telling you Barack is Bruce...no one has been able to control a room like Bruce-until now

3. I'm good with that - as long as he doesn't put his butt on the cover of a mediocre album

4. I almost felt bad for McCain last night, when they cut straight from the
Obama speech to McCain's. The difference was totally jarring. No one should follow Obama if they don't want that comparison.

5. So, Basically, Obama's Success Is Due to a Press Convergence?
Edited on Wed Feb-13-08 10:44 AM by Crisco
Interesting theory.

on edit:

I'm not dissing Bruce, or Obama. Merely stating the FACT that most people wouldn't have heard of Bruce if there hadn't been a major label backing him with major dollars, and it sure as fuck didn't hurt that his new manager had been a writer for Rolling Stone with press contacts of his own.

10. In a way you're right
there are a lot of good artists out there nobody has ever heard of but Bruce is a man who I believe has been touched by the hand of God-he was SUPPOSED to be heard-it was pre-ordained, and even if at the time he was hyped he would have been known because he is great-the cream will always rise to the top. Kind of like Obama...forces worked in concert to bring him to this time and place of greatness.

I remember wondering in prayer right after 9/11-that there HAD to be a reason we went right through the looking glass that day-with THAT guy as our president

9. Really? Bruce Springsteen? Is he dead?
Because Obama is compared to dead Presidents, a dead civil rights leader, an inspiring but dead Senator from NY? Don't tell me Bruce Springsteen is dead too!
