There's a lot of miss information be posted about Obama making yesterday's vote and Hillary passing up on it.

Misinformation about Hillary being in DC along with Obama.

The facts are: Both Obama and Clinton missed yesterday's vote. The sad thing is Clinton is being pilloried for missing it, some saying that they are finally deciding on Obama because he showed up and she didn't.

Obama was in DC and did not go down the street and vote. Clinton was in Texas.

Senate Passes FISA Bill with Immunity for Telecoms

All Things Considered, February 12, 2008 · A standoff in the Senate over expanding the government's eavesdropping powers has finally come to a conclusion. Sens. John McCain and Barack Obama left the campaign trail to join in a series of votes to amend the wiretapping bill backed by the White House. The Senate then passed the legislation 68-29.

The Senate's version of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act provides greater protections for Americans targeted for surveillance. It also gives legal immunity to phone companies that cooperated in President Bush's warrantless wiretapping program.

The bill must be reconciled with the House bill, which contains no immunity.

The fight was over telecom immunity, and he voted correctly. Technically xxxxxxx is correct by saying he missed the final vote, but it omits the important part of what happened today: Obama stood up for Dodd's fight, Clinton did not, and McCain sided with the police state.

Obama voted on the amendment (which was doomed to failure anyway), but did not vote on the FISA bill itself. This allows him to play it both ways - telling liberals that he's on their side, and telling big business that he's reasonable & willing to allow electronic surviellance w/o warrants. Just like how he voted against the BR bill, yet voted against an amendment that would cap credit card rates. Vote both ways, split the difference. HRC didn't vote at all, which is very dissappointing. And this after both of them spoke out against the warrantless wiretaps. The truth is, both candidates are going to miss some votes while trying to campaign for office. It's the way it goes. Frankly, I regret my little "stab" at Clinton, because I don't actually fault her for not being able to be there while in another state. I also think Obama acted responsibly as well, participating in as many votes as possible.

Obama voted on all amendments and the cloture vote, but missed voting on the final bill which took place yesterday at 5:30 PM, he was probably traveling to Wisconsin at that time.

Clinton was not present for any of the votes and voting started yesterday just after 10:00 AM. It was reported that she was in the area of DC earlier in the day before traveling to Texas.

Final passage vote link (vote # 20) shows a time of 7:30 AM ??? although the vote on final passage did not occur until 5:30 PM.
