Hillary has unveiled her Secret Weapon: EL NINO!

Run for the Hills Obama fans!
This could turn out like the final scene in 'Three Amigos' where the entire village of Santa Poco dresses in the same costume.
("Sew, Rosalita. Sew like the wind.")
Then when the big bad man, 'El Guapo', arrives, his forces are thrown into disarray and confusion by all the matching costumes and are eventually defeated.
:sarcasm:

*

Something tells me that Hispanics are just about tired of being told who they are supposed to vote for.
So now Hillary thinks that she must show them. Vote for her, she has the support of El Nino.

Do you think they're going to buy it?

1. Meh. So Hillary had a planned moment with a cute kid -- what politician hasn't?
I think this photo, and it's supposed implications, has been blown out of proportion just a teeny bit here at DU today.

13. add to it the blatant racial pandering and stereotyping
and no, there's nothing wrong.

THat's exactly how white people think of Latinos....Speedy Gonzalez' caricatures.

How come we don't see Obama taking photos with Mariachi kids?

It's called having class...and being a black person himself, knowing how non-whites hate to be typecast.

2. here in LA, with our mayor Villaragoisa, they love Hillary
she has a very, very loyal base. They are a demographic that has power. If you don't live here, you don't really know how much power they have.

I'm from TX also (still live there/here). If we're trading anecdotal evidence, every politically-aware Latino I personally know will be voting for Sen. Clinton.

18. D/FW here.
D/FW here.

But since it's nothing more than anecdotal evidence on either side, I don't really give it any more consideration than it's due...

A person says, "I don't know of anyone who will vote for Sen. Clinton" holds about the same weight in validity to me as the corollary.

33. I'm not sure you know enough of those, but even still
I don't think it will make a difference. Since latinos didn't have a high turnout in 04 and 06 their congressional districts will not get as many delegates as the urban districts with much higher numbers of blacks and much lower numbers of hispanics. What this mean is that even if Hillary had as a high a turnout with Latinos as Obama has with Blacks, he'll still win more delegates.

For Hillary to win Texas she'd have to take the Latino vote And the Black vote,

Obviously she wont be taking the black vote and seeing how Obama won the latino vote last night, I really don't think she has a good shot.

34. I'm afraid I don't know how many...
"'m not sure you know enough of those, but even still..."

I'm afraid I don't know how many is "not enough..."

All I can see is from where I stand and both candidates seem to have a pretty good shot from my vantage point.

And for the time being, I can't really entertain any prognostications as to who will win one or the other target demographic as I have neither the wit nor the wisdom that everyone else seems to posses-- or at least imply that they posses.

She DID win LA County, but his endorsement and power isn't what it once could have been.

The consensus of the earlier thread is that Hillary was exploiting this child and thus up to her usual evil.

20. yes it does. that poor boy has no idea what he is being used for.
I wonder what he will think in 20 years when he looks back and sees how he was utilized by the Clinton Campaign as their Hispanic poster boy.
Do you think he will be proud?

Edited on Wed Feb-13-08 04:59 PM by Lost-in-FL
You statement shows that you have not a clue on how Latinos think. Don't just automatically say HRC is pandering to Hispanics when the kid is obviously of Mexican descent and HRC is campaigning in Texas, please. What's next?

Edit to add.
Good that she is "pandering" to Mexicans after all the crap they get about immigration and being called "Ilegals".

Edited on Wed Feb-13-08 05:14 PM by Lost-in-FL
when politicians ask us for their votes. Notice I used a quotations the second time I used the term.

You never heard of "pandering" to Soccer Mom's or NASCAR Dad's. At least I never heard of it.

but pandering to them using stereotypes and over-generalizations treats them as such.

22. "el nino" shows up at a good chunk of events
in Texas when Latinos are involved.

Like the "si se puede" slogan being used by the Obama campaign is not pandering. Its amazing when you see things through rose colored glasses.
