Every candidate has a number of sore-loser followers who would rather lose themselves in conspiracy fantasies involving wicked but powerful elites than face up to the fact that they backed a loser.

That's why the 'conspriacy' plot is such a reliable staple of Hollywood movies, TV shows etc. It's comforting to believe that the Secret Rules of the World (tm) have it in for you, in a weird way.
