I am nominally an Obama supporter, because I believe personally he has the qualities to both bring the Demnocrats back to the White House and bring somewhat more unity to the nation.

However, I believe the nomination process, including both Hillary and Obama campaigns, should do whatever they can to transcend "identity politics" and social wedge issues, and run on a clear economic progressive populist message and platform. That's something John Edwards had, and which both Obama and Hillary could use more of.

I do not mean ignore the social issues, or the aspect of pride and identity of having either the first black or female president.

But what all gender and ethnic groups need right now is a good healthy dose of kick-ass liberalism and progressive reform on the issues of Wealth and Power. That means addressing the awful concentration of that, and a platform of reducing the stranglehold of Corporate Power and bringing our policies and values back to a more broadly based economic system.

That is something that latte liberals and blue collar Democrats and African Americans and gays and straights should be able to come together on.

1. A good idea.
If they run on a platform of economic populism, they'll have to deliver, or they'll be out in one term.

but would anyone believe them?
I can't see that either one are particularly liberal, although Obama might have a slight edge.

7. The $10,0000 Question
But if they put it on the table and win, there would be pressure for them to actually serve something up.

5. I am a populist progressive, and it's a proud banner to carry.
Sound advice, and we should follow it.

Foreign policy? Start with being the opposite of GWB in everything.

6. LOL -- Opposite of Bush in everything
Yes Bush has provided a great blueprint for foreign policy. He might do a flip on Dale Carnegie and call it "How to Alienate Friends and Influence Nobody."
