Sometimes my feelings against Hillary make me feel weird
Because I supported Bill and Hillary for so long, it's just odd to feel the way I do now. I've said here before (when people started calling those of us who didn't support her 'Hillary Haters') that I'd looked forward to voting for her. Watching her the past few years changed that and now when I see her on TV, seeing her makes me less than happy and it feels weird.

I wonder if a lot of the people who still support her are doing it out of a leftover sense of obligation to stick with her because they have done in the past. I wonder if some of them, especially some of the women of her own age range, want to show her support after all the personal trials she's been through? When I think further about how strange it feels to be turned off when I see her now, I think it's because I've personalized her and Bill - I've always thought of them as similar to my parents; same age range, strong woman, very personable man, etc.

1. You're right, people who still support her must do so for lazy reasons - you are so enlightened!
Please don't insult me.

8. I said a lot of women in her age range who support her, not everyone.
A lot of people who vote for someone, often do so for lazy reasons. I talked to many people before our last local election to get the word out about our candidate. The responses I got made me want to scream! So many people would talk about how horribly the Republicans were doing on a local and national level then turn right around and tell me they were voting for the Republican opposite our guy because they go to Church with him/live on his street/are cousins/went to school with him. It seems to me that SOME people are not able to step away from the personal when it comes to voting. (Please remember you said lazy, I'm adding on to that thought).

3. I'm a 57 year old woman
who has not supported Mrs. Clinton ever since her health care disaster in 1993. I didn't like the plan or the way she handled it. I literally walked on three broken bones after an accident the day of the '92 election to go vote for Mr. Clinton (went to the hospital afterwards), I was so confident that he would do the progressive things our nation needed to have done. He was a disappointment as well.

If she is the nominee, I'll grit my teeth and vote for her, but I have many friends who won't; right now I'm trying to convince them to vote third party rather than GOP to minimize damage.

4. I liked Bill about as much in '92 as I like Barack now. It's strange. A lot of things
happened. That's life. I also remember saying in '92 "Hillary should be President, not Bill" to much amusement of my friends. Now I don't think that Hillary should be President.

The ancient proverb says "You don't step into the same river twice." To me it means that even when you want to recreate some of the old feelings, it isn't possible because time has passed, the river is not the same, and neither are you.

10. Thank you so much, this feeling is just odd and I appreciate that line:
"the river is not the same and neither are you". Thanks.

15. Didn't much care for Bill in '92 and not excited about Obama in '08 for the same reasons.
Generic cheerleading about 'hope' doesn't do much for me.

I'm a classic Dukakis voter.

7. It's been very difficult going back through the Clinton record. It's like finding out a friend
did some pretty awful things, but at the time, we didn't say or do anything about it. There was a sense back then that looking too closely would have been disloyal. That was for Republicans and "Clinton haters." I certainly did NOT want to do anything to help the Republicans and the Right-wing who seemed to enjoy their sense of smug moral superiority and hard-nosed realism about the Clintons.

We then chose to ignore all that for years. The really difficult part is that now I'm forced to question my own integrity back then. That's the really weird feeling for me.

No, I'm not enjoying this.

You're not alone being uncomfortable.

14. Disloyal is the word I was looking for when I wrote that.
A lot of the difference between now and then is the information and education we're receiving online (especially here at DU). I hope more and more people will start informing themselves so politicians will be held accountable for what they do.
