Nevada Ras Poll: Obama 50% McCain 38%, McCain 49% Clinton 40%
Thursday, February 14, 2008

Nevada has cast its Electoral College Votes for the winning candidate in seven straight Presidential Elections. The last four have been very competitive with nobody carrying the state by more than four percent of the popular vote.

Looking ahead to November 2008, Barack Obama has a twelve-point lead over John McCain in a general election match-up. Obama attracts 50% of the vote while McCain earns 38%.

At the same time, McCain has a nine-point lead over Hillary Clinton, 49% to 40%.

Nationally, Obama outperforms Clinton in general election match-ups against McCain. However, the gap is not as large nationally as it is in Nevada. A similar dynamic was found in New Hampshire and Colorado. Clinton and Obama are essentially even with McCain in Missouri.

17. Right - it only matters if you win states that Dems Always Carry
like California.

Gee... i wonder - could Obama possibly eek out a win inCalifornia over McCain in a General Election? (hmmm... maybe worth one of my 3 posts).

6. caucuses only matter if Clinton wins them.
and you're right she did win, but Obama is showing he can win the state as a whole vs. McCain in a GE.

4. Nevada is a caucusing small red state, doesn't matte.....what?
What did you say? Clinton won it?

Well Nevada is an important, significant state and winning it shows that Clinton is a strong viable candidate that can reach across demographic lines to win in November.

:sarcasm:

Seriously though, I don't put much stock in head-to-head polls from this far out, though I will say I personally think Obama has a better shot against McCain.

5. Obama is winning in states we need to pick up: Nevada and Colorado
he will still win those blue states that HRC thinks are the only ones that count, but showing he can be competitive in other states.

9. Nevada is a purple state
And they don't vote by caucus in November. It would be sweet to take this one away from the rethugs.

11. Obama's numbers are artificial.
Thus far in the campaign he has gotten nothing but glowing press.

Once the GOP attack machine gets ginned up many GOP voters will come home and everything will be much more competitive.

14. What part of "12 point lead in the polls" don't you understand?
but because YOU say it'll remain a red state, that's what counts, right?

and if NV goes Blue I'll be the 1st to admit I was wrong.

Pretty good bet on my side given the neocon influence in NV these days.

15. Pretty interesting - Independents seem to really favor Obama over McCain
There is alot more evidence showing up that Independents in particular are more likely to view McCain as status quo.

Also - Independents are HUGELY against the war - by over a 2-1 margin. Largely because of the cost.

Will be interesting to see if this trend grows in Obama's favor.
