Uh Oh....I wonder if Donnie McClurkin is going to donate
to DU so Obama's punching bag ends up hitting McCain before Hillary's punching bag?

I'm dying to see how this is all going to play out! :bounce:

5. Quick! What is the difference between your picture...

... and the pictures below?

Answer: Bill Clinton is in the same pictures as Donnie. While you can not find a picture of Obama and McClurkin together.

These were taken in May of last year, just a few weeks before some R&B artist told Obama he should hire McClurkin to headline one of his Gospel music concerts/fund-raisers.

As of right now, I only see one Hillary supporter upthread...IndianaJones. Bluebear and cboy are Edwards supporters-turned-uncommitted, if my memory serves me.

But I do notice more than one Obama supporter trying to dismiss and minimize the issue...again. And here you are saying that Hillary is supposedly getting a free pass--in a thread that has nothing to do with Hillary.

28. So, what about Hillary? This thread is about Obama and McClurkin.
To shift the subject to Hillary would be deflection and thread hijacking, and would suggest a hesitance to address the subject at hand.

Or are you trying to give a "free pass" to Obama?

30. There are and have been repeated postings about Obama on this
I think there are two on the first page now. But if people are so incensed by a candidate appearing with an anti-gay minister, why aren't there any posts about Hillary's? That's giving Hillary a free pass, and I will keep reminding people of it in my replies to all of the anti-Obama posts. The people posting are obviously interested in the issue, and therefore I'll be helping them out by giving them additional information related to the issue.

33. You have a good point.
However, in those same Obama/McClurkin posts, you will notice Obama supporters come in and immediately attempt to change the subject away from Obama to Clinton. You can see it here in this very thread. The defense is nothing more than "But look at Hillary, look at what she did," all the while never addressing the issue at hand, that issue being Obama and McClurkin. I have yet to read a single post where an Obama supporter said "Yes, my candidate was wrong." (My apologies if I missed those posts, I just haven't seen them.) It's always to deflect away from Obama and to Clinton. Deflection is not a valid defense, and to quote the old adage, "two wrongs don't make a right."

Your complaint is that Hillary is getting a free pass, but by deflecting from Obama to her, you're giving Obama a free pass. Can't you see the hypocrisy in that?

38. I'm not deflecting - I'm adding. I don't think what he did was right,
but the repetitiveness of the positing re: McClurkin has led me to believe that it, like the swarm postings on cult, Reagan and present votes, is simply a standard anti-Obama theme (as I said, there are two posts about it on the front page now; at times, there have been many more). I could be mistaken. But even if I am, and the issue is being repeatedly raised out of an honest revulsion (which would be an appropriate reaction), then adding to the discussion by pointing out that the other candidate did the same is appropriate, esp, as I said, when there are only two candidates remaining. So, if it's an anti-Obama post, it's appropriate to point out Hillary's actions; if it's a post protesting the fact that a politician stood with someone like him, then it is also appropriate to point out another politician who did the same. In neither case is it 'hijacking.'

What I have a problem with is, some of you, making anyone who disagrees with you feel like they are not loyal to the gay rights cause. I do not think it's right to ignore all the pro-gay stands Obama has made just because of one or two people we disagree with. I also think some of you may be doing more harm than good. By posting and reposting the same arguments over and over again and bashing anyone who has any argument at all makes us(Gays and Lesbians) look bad. I AM NOT SAYING GET OVER IT. I am saying there has to be away to get past this and not berate anyone who disagrees.

that is the major problem - at least for me.

There's too much "Oh what's the big deal...?"

It's demeaning.

And you *almost* seem to be suffering from Log Cabin Republican Stockholm Syndrome.

It sounds like you'd rather cower in the closet regarding controversial gay issues, rather than fight, because you don't want to ruffle feathers.

Well Don, not one thing gets accomplished when you don't speak out over and over.

gives you a free pass to dismiss the feelings of people.

Why are you basing your decision on what I say?

The bottom line is you would easily blend in with the Log Cabin Republicans.

I see absolutely no difference between your views and their views.

You're a freeloader when it comes to battling for gay civil liberties.

You can continue insulting me all you want, but that doesn't change the facts.

Obama embraced a dangerous homophobe and you couldn't give a rat's ass.

48. Well donheld....certainly you don't consider yourself
an effective advocate for gay rights.

Reading all of your baloney about how gay people are making too much noise (and perhaps offending people) --and-- reading how you minimize the McClurkin controversy.....that leads me to only one conclusion.

At the very most, you're a passive defender of gay rights.

Don't lash out at me because I'm saying it like it is.

Also, I've not called you a Republican....you're projecting.

My point is you could very easily fit in.

There's no reason why you can't support Obama, while criticizing him for embracing McClurkin -- a notorious homophobe who could very well be responsible for the suicide deaths of numerous gay youth who think they're evil because of the filth he preaches.

So you go ahead and call me an "asshole" and "a fucking jerk" and all the names you want.

None of that changes the fact that you're one of the last people I'd want fighting for gay civil liberties because you don't seem to care.

Be furiuos with me if you want, but you should really be furious with yourself for making others do all of the heavy equal rights lifting for you.

Honesty stings sometimes donheld.

And you can't dispute anything I've said.

36. Yeah, probably.
I have seen clearly the "win at all cost" way of Barack this primary. When he threw the gays to the curb that way, he was pulling in a LOT of AA voters (I lived as a gay woman in South Carolina for 16 years and know how homophobic blacks are there) at the expense of us. His supporters say he is constantly preaching about including the gays but ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS, BARACK!!!!!
