against McCain, although she'll have to kick her campaign staff up a notch (or maybe just in the ass) to make that happen. I have no doubt she'd make a perfectly competent president, and would leave the country in better shape than she found it—though she'd be bitterly opposed at every step by obstructionists in both parties, and would have a lot of trouble getting a true progressive agenda through congress (I'm not sure how interested she really is in a true progressive agenda, but that's another story).

I'm starting to feel what might be the beginnings of a real popular groundswell for Obama, though. It's suddenly not impossible to imagine a Democratic president taking office after a landslide victory, sweeping in a Lieberman-proof senate majority in the process, and having a real shot at unifying the country (except the hardcore 23%, of course) behind an honest-to-God progressive leader. That's why I support Obama. It's a choice between a close race and competently managed compromise on the one hand, versus a real paradigm shift and change of direction for the country on the other. Incremental change versus something closer to the New Deal, say. Call me an idealist goofball, but that's how I see it.

3. There is something wrong with a candidate
who might be able to beat McCain in a close race. After the past 7 years there should be nothing close about the outcome in the upcoming GE.

5. Exactly. The Dem. nominee should be able to do it with one arm tied
Hillary would need both arms, and then some.

6. Hey Oregonian!
I'm a Portlander currently registered as "Independent", but will work to give Oregon to Obama in the GE.

7. Hello Mme. Defarge!
What are you knitting these days? ;)

Great to see you're supporting Obama in the general.

I'm curious to see what the primary results will be in May (it probably won't count toward his nomination, but we'll see). I think it will going heavily, heavily Obama -- similar to Washington State.

:hi:

8. Well,
after looking at both the Clinton and Obama campaign websites yesterday, I think you may be right. Very telling.

4. I also like Hillary but
she's disappointed me tremendously since the IWR. If she can just act more of the pacifist, I won't have a problem voting for her. She has to get out of the war-hawk business once and for all. It's really turned off a lot of people and that's what made Obama so popular. People are sick of this illegal war, and they remember who supported it in the beginning, and those who opposed it.

Sure, I'm willing to forgive Hillary, but not if she is gonna start acting belligerently again.

It's imperative that McCain is defeated. For one thing, he will attack Cuba. He has some kind of imperial Cato personality and a lot of innocents are going to die when he becomes Commander in Chief.

If you want to see a good and recently-released movie about a real American President, the way we should have them in office, check out "Jimmy Carter - Man from Plains". Now out on DVD.
