I'd be curious if she is still alive and if she is, "Where does her support lay in this years race?"

I'd also be curious about the children from his first marriage.
Do they support him? or are they like children of ghouliani

so trying to attack his personal life isn't the answer to whatever you are thinking.

They have an "amicable" divorce.

35. Oh dear.
Somehow I think if candidate on democratic side started dating a much younger rich woman while his injured in a car crush wife was raising his three kids, then divorced his wife and married this new woman, we would never hear the end of it.

5. See, it goes like this...
Unbeknownst to many, Fred McMurray, , was a serial killer on the show My Three Sons. Until he starred in that 'comedy' and in 'The Absent-Minded Professor', he always played heavies...for a reason.

How else could you explain the disappearance of so many characters over the run of the show with no explanation including wives, caretakers, children, grandchildren, girlfriends and the fact that he had to move all the way across the country for no apparent reason...

While he was stopping in Arizona, he happened by her, and we all know what happened next...

6. I looked it up in wikipedia the story
something like this. Ex got crippled in auto accident and gained weight from it. Sometime after that McCain goes to Hawaii for a meeting and meets his now wife who is in her 20's he was in 40's then. They start affair, he leaves wife feels guilty I guess because I read he gave wife both houses and lots of money. At first the kids were so upset they refused and didn't go to wedding but years later he made up with all of them. Basically what I got out of it was he kissed major ass for forgiveness and she and the kids forgave him years later after he financially took good care of them.

I think he knew he wanted to go into politics and would need definitely ex speaking nice about him so he bought her off...oh by the way new wife is rich and paid for his first campaign where he majorly out spent the other guy and thats how he won the first one.

There was some curious story about Bob Dole and his first wife too - he cheated on her with a stewardess (NOT Elizabeth) and just left one day.

30. from his first pres run: "says she supports his candidacy..."
McCain took responsibility for his failings. I don't like how McCain has turned into a George Bush toady, but what he did years ago is before that bizarre transformation. Trying to attack him for how he conducted his personal life won't gain any points for democrats.

McCain character loyal to a fault
By Mary Leonard, Globe Staff, 3/4/2000

...They were divorced in 1980. She lives "in the Washington area".

"McCain blames himself for the breakup of his first marriage. McCain wanted a fuller, faster life than he found back home with his first wife. Carol Shepp McCain, who lives in the Washington area, has spoken kindly of her former husband, says she supports his candidacy, and attributes their divorce to ''John turning 40 and wanting to be 25 again.''

McCain did what he believed was honorable: He provided generously for Carol, who had been seriously injured in a car accident during his captivity, and their three children, including two adopted sons from her previous marriage. ''If you can ever have an amicable divorce, this one was,'' said George ''Bud'' Day, a lawyer and POW friend who drew up the papers in 1980.

A month after the divorce, McCain married Cindy Hensley, 24, an heiress to a Phoenix beer-distribution fortune, and part of a politically well-connected family. They have four school-aged children who McCain dotes on and disciplines in a way his own father never did."

I wonder what on earth has been done to McCain to turn him into a toady, he used to hate GW Bush's guts!

I know everyone is just having fun....and I don't mean for you to stop...I just wanted to add a little perspective

We are a post Navy family(my husband served) and experienced the life for 12 years with many long term absences. It has been a major struggle and even getting out has caused many adjustments....it is just not a life that is condusive to a healthy marriage....not to mention the torture Mccain went through for 5 years and the trauma his wife went through with her tough circumstances(wreck...raising kids alone etc)

You just come away from that different....you grow apart. That doesn't excuse the affairs he had, but it does provide some insight. The experience is amazing and sadly common in the military life. The divorce rate is astounding.

Which is one consequence that I think is overlooked by sending our military over and over and over in this war. There is death, injury and broken families..it is just not sustainable situation for our military familes......One of the many reasons we need to bring the troops home.

I know McCain has taken responsibility for his own action and not blamed the military, but I just don't believe him...their experience is just too common...we didn't think that the military would produce the many problems that our marriage has faced...but it did....Military experience is not the whole problem, but it can often be part of the problem....

26. Actually I've been kind of surprised by many of the comments
because this question was never written for humor.

I found it odd that we have heard nothing about her or the kids at all.

I was pleased to learn that they have moved on with their lives and have reconciled somewhat.

When they divorced he didn't dispute her getting the two houses and she got a lot of money that he also didn't dispute.

After ghouliani and gingrich I was curious.

28. It's very sad, but unfortunately right! My son was in the Navy for 14 yrs.
Cruises are usually 6 months, but that doesn't include the shakedown cruise before each tour! Life on a ship at sea for 6 months gets old pretty quick too. My son got married after he was in the Navy for about 8 years. The long term separations, lonely wives living & raising a family is just more than many relationships can endure.

OTOH, my BIL was in the Marines 24 years! He did spend some time in 'Nam, but he had the advantage of being able to take his family with him an most of his OS tours. He's still married to his first wife, has 4 children & 6 gradnchildren.

37. Hey Princess, I'm sorry I ran out of hearts already from the fundraiser
 Now that I've finished laughing at McCain's entirely human character flaws, I appreciate your reminder that Democrats are supposed to be the ones who don't need to futher explain our compassion. It's a tragedy when a family falls apart because they serve their country and a victory when they learn to heal their differences.

John McCain is a nice guy who will just happen to make a shitty president.

33. His wife was in a car crash, and gained weight.
Edited on Thu Feb-14-08 07:40 PM by lizzy
McCain started dating a young rich woman, divorced his wife and married his young rich woman.
"On top of that, his personal life was a mess: Although he was still living with his wife, he was aggressively courting a 25-year-old woman who was as beautiful as she was rich.

That troubled period was perhaps the crucial turning point in John McCain's life, and the decisions that he made then started him on the course that he hopes will take him to the White House in January. In just a few years from those times of soul-searching in his office as Navy liaison to the Senate, Mr. McCain would have a new wife, a new home state and a bright new political star as president of the class of newly elected Republican members of the House of Representatives.

For a candidate running on character and biography, it is also an awkward time to remember: Mr. McCain abandoned his wife, who had reared their three children while he was in Vietnamese prisons, and he then began his political career with the resources of his new wife's family."

38. It doesn't matter
Didn't anyone tell you?

No matter how bad a husband a politician is, no matter how much he screws around on his wife, how horrible a father he is to his kids, it is all wiped clean with the divorce decree and it is unseemly, petty and dirty politics for anyone to ever mention it again.

Cases in point: Ronald Reagan, Bob Dole, Newt Gingrich, John McCain, etc.

But if a couple stays married, tries to work on their problems and keep their marriage intact (you know, that whole family values thing?), their marriage and everything that occurs therein is EVERYBODY's business.

Case in point: one guess
