***BARACK OBAMA APPRECIATION THREAD***
Barack Obama, relatively unknown in many states when this primary contest began, has come charging from far behind to move ahead of Hillary Clinton who was supposed to be the hands-down winner in this contest. He has done this by blending a tremendous narrative of vision and renewed national unity with a progressive, populist policy message. He has defied the odds and won the hearts and minds of millions across the nation, in every part of it, east west north south and in the heartland. He is capturing the national imagination in a way we haven't seen since the JFK and RFK candidacies. He is most definitely experienced and brilliant, and he is ready to be President. I have seen this man up close in my state of Maine and was extraordinarly impressed. We need MAJOR change in this country. We are hungry for inspriational leadership, and we are hungry for national unity. We want to believe again. Barack Obama is the first presidential candidate in many years able to offer and deliver what we so desperately need to heal this nation, turn the page of history, and move toward a new era of American greatness. In poll after poll over a long period of time, Barack's favorables are MUCH higher than are Hillary's. If Hillary were to nominated, she would begin the general election with at least a solid 47% of the country opposed to her candidacy, and . this statistic unlikely to change. The Republicans are hoping and praying that she will be the nominee because it will dramatically energize and unite their party. In contrast, Barack Obama is drawing MANY more young voters, Independents, and cross-over Republicans than does Hillary while at the same time drawing more and more "traditional" Democratic base voters. I urge my fellow DUers to do all they can to help make Barack Obama our Democratic Party nominee for President. If you haven't already, please go to http://www.barackobama.com to learn how you can take action to help Barack Obama become our next President. Thanks very much.

2. To quote Obama: "Cyncism is a sorry kind of wisdom"
Sorry to see so many here adopting that attitude.

4. So true that up close he is even more impressive...
and in COMMAND of policy and substance.

When i saw him here in NM at an "Economic Summit" - He was in TOTAL command even of detailed local issues on economic concerns particular to the state. Not at a "superficial i've been prepped by handlers" level - but at the level of a person with a brilliant mind - who actually understands how the economy works, and IN DETAIL, what we need to do to fix it. I saw a real leader - who will MORE than hold his own in these difficult times as OUR NEW COMMANDER IN CHIEF.

I also went to the Clinton rally - where I got Democratic Boilerplate... delivered to blarring music (Police - "Every Little Thing She Does is Magic") designed to make an otherwise ho hum crowd look mildly excited. I did not see details or experience in Mrs. Clinton. I saw someone who has insulated herself in a bubble of "yes people" - and who feels she is "owed the presidency". It was not presidential at all.

7. Get involved
Things are going to get awfully heated in the next few weeks and I am sure the campaign for Sen. Obama can use more cash to buy airtime to get the message out. If, like me, you have no way to be active on the ground, donating money is the next best thing.

Win or lose, Obama is running the kind of campaign I want to see in the general election. It has a message with broad appeal, is bringing in young voters, and will help us elect more legislators downticket. Gobama!
