Clinton rally overflows at Brush High School

...Clinton's Lyndhurst rally drew diehard supporters along with a crowd star-struck at the chance to be near a celebrity and to be a part of the election process. So many people flocked to the school that traffic backed up on Mayfield Road, parking lots were gridlocked and people parked on side streets.

Lines grew so long two hours before the rally that they had to be shifted, frustrating those who lost their choice spots. After packing the gym, the crowd spilled over into the school's performing-arts center and cafeteria, where they watched on closed-circuit television.

U.S. Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones, who has accompanied Clinton across the state this week before finally bringing her to her district, introduced Clinton as "my candidate" and the oft-repeated "next president of the United States" with a throaty roar.

Clinton, flanked by retired Gen. Wesley Clark and a cadre of Ohio politicians, peppered her speech with shots at the Bush administration, decrying reckless spending, having two oilmen run the White House and a culture of fear and fatalism...

10. Please. You know if she released them, they'd be nitpicked to death.
Then she would be spending all her time explaining what every little line item meant. This is the same ploy that was used by the right wing when they demanded that Kerry release all his military records, which he also refused to do.

Remember Whitewater? Thousands of hours and people poring over documents and finally, the Republican in charge of the investigation said, "Whoops. Our bad. Nothing there." And the right wing snickered, because they'd won; they planted the seed in the American public's mind that there was corruption, but there. was. nothing. there.

Some games aren't worth the time it takes to play them.

Did the GOP go over Obama's and Kerry's tax returns?

Has Clinton found anything on Obama's tax return?

20. Hillary at College
Edited on Sat Feb-16-08 02:38 AM by bigtree
. . . looks so republican :eyes:

-- An undated photograph of Hillary Rodham, center, during her days as a student at Wellesley College, from 1965 to 1969.

"My mom could not live my life; father could not imagine it
I was not born a first lady or a senator. I was not born a Democrat. I was not born a lawyer or an advocate for women's rights and human rights. I was not born a wife or a mother. I was born an American in the middle of the 20th century, a fortunate time and place. I was free to make choices unavailable to many women in the world today. I came of age on the crest of tumultuous social change and took part in the political battles fought over the meaning of America and its role in the world.

My mother and grandmothers could never have lived my life; my father and my grandfathers could never have imagined it. But they bestowed on me the promise of American, which made my life and my choices possible."

"In 1972, I returned to D.C. to work for Marian Wright Edelman. My assignment was to gather information about the Nixon Administration's failure to enforce the legal ban on granting tax-exempt status to the private segregated academies that had sprung up in the South to avoid integrated public schools. The academies claimed they were created in response to parents deciding to form private schools; it had nothing to do with court-ordered integration. I went to Atlanta to meet with the lawyers and civil rights workers who were compiling evidence that proved the academies were created solely for the purpose of avoiding the constitutional mandate of the Supreme Court's decisions.

As part of my investigation, I drove to Alabama. At a local private school, I had an appointment to meet an administrator to discuss enrolling my imaginary child. I went through my role-playing, asking questions about the curriculum and makeup of the student body. I was assured that no black students would be enrolled."

"My first article, titled "Children Under the Law," was published in 1974 in the Harvard Educational Review. My views were shaped by what I had observed as a volunteer for Legal Services representing children in foster care & by my experiences at the Chil Study Center in Yale-New Haven Hospital. I advised doctors as they tried to ascertain whether a child should be put into the child welfare system. I come from a strong family and believe in a parent's presumptive right to raise his or her child as he or she sees fit. But at Yale-New Haven Hospital, I saw children whose parents beat and burned them; who left them alone for days in squalid apartments; who failed and refused to seek necessary medical care. The truth was that certain parents abdicated their rights as parents . . .

"My eight years in the White House tested my faith and political beliefs, my marriage, and our nation's Constitution. I became a lightning rod for political and ideological battles waged over America's future and a magnet for feelings, good and bad, about women's choices and roles."

71. I like to see pictures of Hillary's early life.
Let me say upfront that I'm an Obama supporter.

That being said, I really admire Hillary Rodham Clinton. She is highly intelligent and gutsy. I truly wish she had run for President in the 2004 election and won.

Even with *ush and Diebold, I don't think Hillary would have just bowed out and let them steal the damn election --she's much too tough for that.

After her two terms, it would have been Obama's turn. *Sigh*

Peace:thumbsup:

8. You'd think Hillary supporters could have a thread where Oduers didn't just piss all over it.
Edited on Sat Feb-16-08 02:47 AM by Skip Intro

You'd think it, but you'd be wrong.

I just looked down a long thread praising Obama, and almost no replies dissing him. Can't remember one. I'll get the link in a minute.

Link: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=4611900&mesg_id=4611900

And this thread was six replies long when I started this post, and there were like six replies dissing the hell out of Hillary.

What the fuck is that?

That's the difference between the candidates, and the type of support they inspire here.

Hillary supporters refrained from crapping all over that Obamafest thread. Obama supporters can't wait to do so on this thread. It's called respect vs. disrespect..

56. Have a look at this thread and get back to me, ok?
this thread we are posting in right now started as a thread about Hillary drawing a crowd at an event - that was all there was to it - and within minutes, the attacks began to fly

now look at this thread, about Obama. The gushing is nauseating. But do you see one swipe at Obama from a Hillary supporter. Even though this was probably one of the most hero-worshipy threads to come along in a while? Nope. Not one.

Here's the Obama thread:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=4611900&mesg_id=4611900

That is the point. In this context at least. Hillary supporters aren't out there attacking. Obama supporters are. For no reason. Look at this thread. Hillary draws a crowd. That's it. Look what happened.

Only the Obama crowd attacked.

"I'm bullish on America. I think our best days are ahead," Clinton said. "We need a government that will stand up for the working people and the middle class."

She proposed changing the tax code so companies would not be rewarded for shipping jobs outside of the U.S.

This hit home for Gene Steele, president of the United Auto Workers Local 856, who cited Meggitt Aircraft Braking System's recent announcement to shift hundreds of jobs from Akron to Mexico. "She got to the core of the problem this country is facing," he said.

In the morning, Clinton showed her grasp of details, easily reciting facts and figures on subjects from foreclosure to foster care at a round-table session at a Skyline Chili in Cincinnati

47. Clinton's Lyndhurst rally drew diehard supporters along with a crowd

Clinton's Lyndhurst rally drew diehard supporters along with a crowd star-struck at the chance to be near a celebrity and to be a part of the election process. So many people flocked to the school that traffic backed up on Mayfield Road, parking lots were gridlocked and people parked on side streets.

50. From the article, 2,500 people - that's impressive. Wow.
Clinton, who spoke in Cincinnati and Akron before an evening rally that brought more than 2,500 people to Brush High School, declared herself the candidate of, from and for the middle class of America.

57. Lesson One in putting on candidate events: get a small venue if you can't draw big crowds
Edited on Sat Feb-16-08 03:04 AM by TexasObserver
High School?!

Obama draws tens of thousands to his events, while Hillary struggles to get 3000.

Most political observers understand that is a barometer of voter excitement or lack thereof.

60. Thats why when she comes to Madison on Sunday, she is speaking at a place that may hold 5,000
She could speak at the Kohl Center, where Obama packed 20,000 in for his victory speech on Tuesday. The building is open. She could even speak at the 10,000+ Arena at the Alliant Energy Center, but I guess even that is too many.

82. LOL, how the trolls fool you

these threads are crawling with trolls. Obama's supporters, like Obama himself,
have integrity. The offensive posters on DU that pose as Hillary and/or Obama
supporters are acheiving their goals with some of us-getting their goat.

It amazes me that some DUers don't see through this. Let's not be so gullible
and play into their hands. And no need to bash real Obama supporters (and
vice versa).
