"I vote Obama over McCain and McCain over Hillary"
Are the repugs finally waking up? Their responses to this WashingtonPost.com article featuring congressman Tom Cole(R) are surprising and maybe enlightening.

15. I've heard the same thing from many people
Edited on Sat Feb-16-08 10:39 PM by tammywammy
From people that are more "center." They like McCain more than Clinton and Obama more than McCain.

If Clinton becomes the nominee, you cannot tell people on here to vote for McCain, FYI.

edited to add: I'll vote for the dem nominee.

29. I am tired of the Clintons too but...
Edited on Sat Feb-16-08 11:20 PM by I Vote In Pittsburgh
you have to realize that voting in a presidential race is not all about how much we like the candidates as people. Even though I think the Clintons have little integrity, voting for McCain is a great evil. If you need proof, look at the FISA bill. EVERY single republican voted to make telecom companies immune to lawsuits for spying on us. EVERY republican agreed to take away our 4th amendment rights.

The truth is, character does not have as huge an effect on policy decisions as you may think.

6. Three weeks ago I would have agreed with you. McCain's recent statements have changed my mind
I can't and won't vote for Hillary, but it looks like I can't vote for McCain now either.

I guess it is Barack or nothing for me now.

9. I can agree with this.
I've thought of writing in Al Gore if Clinton is the nominee. Perhaps my governor, Dave Freudenthal.

7. It's different in my neck of the woods.
Most of my coworkers, who are rather middle of the road, have stated that they'll take Clinton over McCain in hopes of a renewed economy. They've also said that they'll take McCain over Obama because they feel that he is middle of the road, which is what they want.

10. My dad, a lifelong Republican, said that to me today.
I'm not even sure he'd vote McCain. He joked the name he would write in if it were McCain v. Hillary would be "Nikita Krushchev". But he likes Obama and despises both Hillary and McCain.

I suspect there are a lot more people like him. I wouldn't mind having a Reagan-style landslide, myself.

12. Did you forget that McCain will keep us in Iraq for 100 years?
I am no Clinton fan, but I don't see how you could even consider voting for McCain. At least Clinton gives lip service to withdrawing from Iraq.

16. McCain was taken out of context here.
Now, I'll be accused of defending him, but I'm only being honest: he was referring to the fact that we are STILL in Germany and STILL in Japan. So he meant we would probably STILL be in Iraq. I think that would be most unwise, but that's what he meant. Alright more hate, coming my way.

22. ...
I disagree with you. I don't want a pres who says we "probably (will) STILL be in Iraq" for 100 years. If that is the context it is still wrong. And as far as Japan and Germany go, we should pull out of there too.

18. Geez, I agreed with a statement.
I'll take Obama over McCain, and McCain over Clinton. Don't you guys debate reasonable people? Seriously? I'm a moderate Democrat. Just in this thread, I've been called an asshole and some manner of piece of shit. I have not attacked any of you! Tell me, why Clinton over McCain? Seriously, can't any of you discuss or do you just spew vile?

20. Well, how bout this. Since you came on a Democratic website and claimed...
that you'd support McCain over Clinton, why don't you tell us what you like about McCain that earns him your support over Clinton?

I'm eager to hear your response.

28. The middle/indies.
This is the face of "Clinton Fatigue", "conservative democrats", and folks who vote with, as Colbert says, "their gut".

I say we run with it, get the House, Senate, and Executive back, and tombstone the GOP permanently.

already absentee voted for Obama in the Wisconsin primary, and are ready to go the distance - UNLESS Hillary is the nominee.
