"Don't tell me words don't matter"
Barack Obama tonight in Wisconsin.

Effect of words on water molecules:

If you want to build a ship, don't drum up the men to gather wood, and divide the work and give orders.
Instead, teach them to yearn for the vast and endless sea.
-- Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

Don't tell me words don't matter. ;)

4. and Hillary's actions are as empty as her words
--snip--

Clinton v. Obama on Legislative Experience:
Senator Clinton, who has served only one full term (6yrs.), and another year campaigning, has managed to author and pass into law, (20) twenty pieces of legislation in her first six years. These bills can be found on the website of the Library of Congress (www.thomas.loc.gov), but to save you trouble, I'll post them here for you:
1. Establish the Kate Mullany National Historic Site.
2. Support the goals and ideals of Better Hearing and Speech Month.
3. Recognize the Ellis Island Medal of Honor.
4. Name courthouse after Thurgood Marshall.
5. Name courthouse after James L. Watson.
6. Name post office after Jonn A. O'Shea.
7. Designate Aug. 7, 2003, as National Purple Heart Recognition Day.
8. Support the goals and ideals of National Purple Heart Recognition Day.
9. Honor the life and legacy of Alexander Hamilton on the bicentennial of his death.
10. Congratulate the Syracuse Univ. Orange Men's Lacrosse Team on winning the championship.
11. Congratulate the Le Moyne College Dolphins Men's Lacrosse Team on winning the championship.
12. Establish the 225th Anniversary of the American Revolution Commemorative Program.
13. Name post office after Sergeant Riayan A. Tejeda.
14. Honor Shirley Chisholm for her service to the nation and express condolences on her death.
15. Honor John J. Downing, Brian Fahey, and Harry Ford, firefighters who lost their lives on duty. Only five of Clinton's bills are, more substantive.
16. Extend period of unemployment assistance to victims of 9/11.
17. Pay for city projects in response to 9/11
18. Assist landmine victims in other countries.
19. Assist family caregivers in accessing affordable respite care.
20. Designate part of the National Forest System in Puerto Rico as protected in the wilderness preservation system.

There you have it, the fact's straight from the Senate Record.

Now, I would post those of Obama's, but the list is too substantive, so I'll mainly categorize.
During the first (8) eight months of his elected service he sponsored over 820 bills.
He introduced
233 regarding healthcare reform,
125 on poverty and public assistance,
112 crime fighting bills,
97 economic bills,
60 human rights and anti-discrimination bills,
21 ethics reform bills,
15 gun control,
6 veterans affairs and many others.

His first year in the U.S. Senate, he authored 152 bills and co-sponsored another 427.
These inculded **the Coburn-Obama Government Transparency Act of 2006 (became law),
**The Lugar-Obama Nuclear Non-proliferation and Conventional Weapons Threat Reduction Act, (became law),
**The Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act, passed the Senate,
**The 2007 Government Ethics Bill, (became law),
**The Protection Against Excessive Executive Compensation Bill, (In committee),
and many more. In all since he entered the U.S. Senate, Senator Obama has written 890 bills and co-sponsored another 1096. An impressive record, for someone who supposedly has no legislative record.

12. Obama's passed only 1 Senate bill
Edited on Sun Feb-17-08 01:30 AM by jackson_dem
It was either one to rename a post office or one about the Congo. Obamites haven't cleared this up.

Bill Sponsorship & Cosponsorship

Statistics: Barack Obama has sponsored 129 bills since Jan 4, 2005, of which 120 haven't made it out of committee (Poor) and 1 were successfully enacted (Average, relative to peers). Obama has co-sponsored 545 bills during the same time period (Average, relative to peers).

16. How many did Obama pass? Oh, that's right.... TWO.
Oh, you would post those, but they'd be TOO SUBSTANTIVE, huh? Well, I'll do it for you. Here they are:

S.RES.133 : A resolution celebrating the life of Bishop Gilbert Earl Patterson.
Sponsor: Sen Obama, Barack (introduced 3/28/2007)

S.RES.268 : A resolution designating July 12, 2007, as "National Summer Learning Day".
Sponsor: Sen Obama, Barack (introduced 7/11/2007)

OBAMA HAS CHANGED THE WORLD! MY SAVIOR!

What a ridiculous, disingenuous post.

In the U.S. Senate, Clinton has authored 352 bills, and co-sponsored 1713 bills.

6. They do, but that doesnt mean that words should be dismissed
It is important to insipre the American People to be interested in our country again, and Obama has shown that through his words, he is able to do that.

10. oh hell! I can string words together and make them all sound
that each one is more important then the next. Obama does have the gift of oratory but many words do not mean much when there is nothing behind the words. Obama, once the words are spoken cannot justify those words with his policies. He reminds me of that old movie that was on today, The Rainmaker starring Burt Lancaster that also had the gift of oratory and he too promised the people he would bring down the rain from the heavens. Obama is akin to that same type person. Skillful wording and the right pitch is akin to the revival preachers of bygone years, and their gift was also oratory and truth be told, their words didn't matter..

15. Can you string words together that motivate people to make a difference?
From the words you post on this site, I think not.

Some skillful wording from past generations, one was a preacher, they may not mean anything to you, but they motivated people to make changes for the better. You may have experienced some of the benefits of those changes, they all started with words.

“‘I have a dream!’ Just words.

‘We hold these truths to be self evident that all me are created equal.’ Just words.

‘We have nothing to fear but fear itself.’ Just words. Just speeches,”

"Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country" Just words.

by the way, tonight's speech might have been my favorite of his. I just really liked the section where he attacked the "words don't matter" nonsense

18. I'm watching it right now. Very good speech!
Now he's talking about hope.

I keep thinking of the last line in "V for Vendetta": This country doesn't need another building; this country needs hope.

Yes, it does.

so they just left it off the video - true story.
