19. Landslide.
There haven't been any polls, but I'd wager that it could be "Worse than Idaho."

I don't think there are that many Hillary people here and I doubt the mass of them will show.

Chelsea is here, but I really don't think it will make a difference.

Best guess 82-18.

We've gotten 2 calls from the Obama campaign here and one from the Hillary people. They were pissed when they found out this is an Obama house. Like that's such a shock in Hawaii?1?!?

30. I don't think it has that much affect.
Inouye is a bit of a sculpture. Kennedy couldn't flip MA.

I think it matters in so far as they have some local callers and good phone lists.

34. Good..I think Kennedy and Kerry
helped Obama in Mass..I wonder if Inouye might have jumped on the hilary wagon too soon? And, Akaka is still on the fence, si?

36. Yup, so is Mazie Hirono (2nd CD)
The Obama campaign here has worked their okole's off. I'm not too worried. No need to call in sick for work tommorow. x(

The caucus here is a straight private ballot. That might give Hillary a slight leg up since the old folks won't have to hang around forever.

41. Maize Hirono is on
the fence? That's Kauai.. Well, if Obama takes Hawaii then maybe they'll endorse 'im then and poor ol Inouye can stick with hilary.

44. I've met Mazie...
She's very soft spoken and considerate.

2nd CD is actually just about everything outside of Honolulu and South Oahu.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mazie_Hirono

I think she leans Obama, but she only beat State Sen. Pres. Colleen Hanabusa (Clinton, big time) by 800 votes in 2006 so I think she's working on shoring up her own organization. She's playing it safe, which is kind of smart for a pol. in her position.

48. It will help Obama with Hawaiians, I bet,
Edited on Mon Feb-18-08 02:51 AM by mahina
and for the rest of us local folks, it makes us, me anyway, wonder why he did that.
I canvassed with those folks before and I have to say, their style is mostly just to do lit drops on doorknobs, because they don't really know about the candidates. That was a different race, but that was my take.

It will be tighter I think, I'd bet 70-30 but it could be closer. Sometimes I think El is right. On the other hand in the statistically flawed sampling of the 7 people who told me they decided today, 6 were Obama folks and 1 was a Hillary fan.

What I do know is that the turnout is going to be phenomenal. Our volunteer list had like 18 people, of whom only a 3 had ever attended a caucus. So does that mean our turnout will be 5+ times normal?

I got a Hillary robocall and it was stupid, some east coast sounding lady bitching women, women, women...woman, woman, woman blah blah, who gives a ....about her gender, I want to know how she thinks. She's not running for president of the women's caucus. Holy Moses.

Anyway Elisonz, I've been away for DU for about a week I guess, and just came in because I got a message in my mailbox, so THANKS for the pics. Have a great caucus. Volunteering?

I'll let you know how mine goes, if I can still see straight. Good vibes...

49. Unfortunately, I'll be racing from work.
And I voted absentee in CA already because I figured it would be better to vote sooner and by mail since I work odd hours. I'm delivering my brother from work when I get off to the caucus to meet my father (volunteering) and step mother in District 19. All first time caucus goers, so that's +3 from our household.

I don't think the majority of Inouye's network will show up just based on their probable demographics in relation to caucus attendance. I think the Obama camp here is organized enough to pull it off. Based on my 2004 experience, they appear to be running a good show. 2004 turnout was 4500, I'm going to guess probably 12-15,000 turnout.

Good night, and good luck!

However, I think the campaign here understands he needs to be on the Mainland, and besides we have Maya who is really eloquent and thoughtful. She's a history teacher.

I bet he comes for a vacation once Hillary drops out and probably has an event or two.

So thanks to all of you there in the paradise of Hawaii for preparing a young Barack Obama to be a leader for ALL Americans.

Like you, he really makes me proud and I can't wait until he is sworn in as President. What a glorious day that will be.
