Poll question: Teh Howard Dean popularity poll
How do you feel about Howard as head of the DNC, and who do you support for president?

1. Ambivelant
I don't think Dean is having a big impact and is largely irrelevant.

5. I support him as DNC chair and the 50 state strategy
I do think he made a big mistake on Florida and Michigan, though.

8. 50-state strategy. Dean makes sense. DLC makes money.
No coincidence, IMHO, that "Obama does well in a lot of red states that the DLC has pretty much written off since the early 90's, at least.

Such as South Carolina, Alaska, Idaho, Utah, Kansas, Georgia, Nebraska, Louisiana, and Virginia(purple?).

(See http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2008/president/democratic_delegate_count.html for numbers.)

DLC, it seems to me, has only really won one election by a large margin: Clinton vs. Dole in 1996.

2000 and 2004 they won, but not by enough to avoid having it stolen from them.

13. he is in bed with Obama and has failed to control the candidates b/c of it!
he allows smears to continue and to allow democrats to fight amongst themselves...

he allowed the media to be one-sided favoring Obama and accuse the Clintons of racism...

and he was foolish to even suggest states not be seated... especially states as important as Florida and Michigan...

I still find no value in what people in Iowa think... and don't say it is b/c I am a Hillary supporter... it is b/c I am a Minnesotan!

Dean needs to be gone!!!!!

15. I still support Howard Dean for President
Isn't there anyway he can just declare himself the nominee? Some obscure rule or something? Ack dreaming again.

16. RE: Teh Howard Dean popularity poll
I was a resolute Howard Dean supporter, but my right to vote is always the first issue on my list. For all that I like about the man, his actions are an unforgettable betrayal. People power does not start with disenfranchising millions of voters. A 50 state plan does not work if 2 states are disenfranchised. The further action to wait until the convention to decide whether or not my vote will count, only worsens the situation. Unless Dean fixes this mess very soon, he will have lost my trust completely.

To address your concern over candidates, I would have to say I support neither. Neither of the two were willing to stand up for my right to vote, so they are both complicit in their silence. As candidates I was not excited about either, but leaned more towards Obama. I would have happily voted for Obama in the general election, given that I believe his platform will be more mature at that point. I would have persuaded family, coworkers, and neighbors to support him, but would not have actively campaigned for him or donated funds to his coffers. I would have held my nose for Hillary if it came to that.

Given the events that have ensued, and the lack of action to resolve this in a way that represents both the voters of Florida and Michigan fully, I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place. Most likely the only thing that will get my support in the general election now, would be a ground swell of grassroots activity that leads to the draft of Al Gore at the convention. While this does not resolve the issue at hand, it does bypass the process that created it. If it is a grassroots effort with participation in all 50 states, I feel it would represent the will of the people in a way that may work in this messy year. Highly unlikely, but given the mess I hope it happens. No matter what happens, I will be at the polls. Depending on what happens, will determine how I cast my vote.
