Camp Clinton: Red state delegates are "second class"
"Second-class delegates"

A co-chairman of Hillary's Michigan campaign and has a line that's sure to drive a whole bunch of red state governor's up the wall:

"Superdelegates are not second-class delegates," says Joel Ferguson, who will be a superdelegate if Michigan is seated. "The real second-class delegates are the delegates that are picked in red-state caucuses that are never going to vote Democratic."

1. Perhaps we should change the primary rules for 2012 to only allow...
those states which Hillary won to vote in the Primaries. After all, as the rest don't really count, why waste everyone's time there?

33. I suppose us red state dems could kiss their rings and give them
our last buck. Tell me, fuckers? Are our dollars second class too or what?

2. Right
Because why would we ever want to nominate a candidate that might actually win some of those so called red states.

:sarcasm:

3. Wow. This should be a big story but won't be...
The media is too busy smearing the candidate they built up so they could tear down later to follow it.

4. Yeah, because people in the red states don't insult us all the time.
If they're majority Republican, what votes are we losing?

Do Obama supporters have anything to post besides opinions and quotes by one person, slanted to make it look as if they're talking for everyone? Could that be more off-the-cuff?

:eyes:

Then again, Obama supporters at DU really will say anything and do anything. It's campaigning via invective and smear.

Get real. Any editorial in any of many different papers on a given day are far worse than what this guy said. Not to mention, oh, most Obama supporters' posts here. Start looking at the way your own supporters talk about the northeast. Not exactly the most respectful and accurate you'll ever see.

Hypocrite much?

34. So you think that Democrats in red states don't matter...
Edited on Mon Feb-18-08 03:12 PM by Spider Jerusalem
because of the conduct of Republicans in those states?

That's an incredibly stupid thing to say. Is the Democratic Party the party of everyone who calls him/herself a Democrat? Or only the party of people who live in blue states? Marginalising people within the party and telling them 'you don't matter' is not smart. It is also not particularly helpful in working to change the political demographics of so-called 'red states' (most of which vote anywhere from thirty to forty-nine percent blue in national elections).

She is not liked down here, that's for sure. Maybe because she
of things like that.
I think Obama could win here though.

We were a slightly blue state for Gore in 2000, a slightly red state for Bush in 2004. We have a caucus, so that means Hillary is blowing us off. Looks like she is going to give up on Iowa and let McCain win.

14. I'm just speechless here.
Here's abit more of this interview from the Lansing State Journal.

The superdelegates have been getting a super amount of attention lately, with some saying it would be outrageous for superdelegates to put Clinton over the top if Obama has won the most popular votes and delegates in primaries and caucuses.

Ferguson, who supports Clinton, doesn't buy that argument for a minute.

"Superdelegates are not second-class delegates," Ferguson said. "The real second-class delegates are the delegates that are picked in red-state caucuses that are never going to vote Democratic."

16. The point is that he has not won the larger contests and swing vote states, crucial to win a GE
and she leads in OH and PEN.....nobody has won a GE since the 60's without winning at least 2 of the swing states of OH, PEN and FL (which is why the Dem leadership better be VERY CAREFUL about denying Floridians their votes and delegates. We need that state and they voted overwhelmingly for Hillary, and 300,000 votes more than McCain.

40. Oh, snap! That's gonna leave a mark.
I can't believe Hillary thought it would all be over by February 5th.

Maybe she thought the Iraq War would be over in 6 weeks when she voted for the IWR, after Wolfowitz said it should only last that long, too.

Maybe she believed everything the Bush administration ever told her.

Talk about an error in judgement!

What happened to all that "experience" she was supposed to have?

31. Are these people just stupid?
Did the Clinton campaign hire all the stupid people running campaigns or what?

There are more than ten primaries/caucuses left and more than half are in red states. All Obama has to do is play what these stupid boneheads are saying about red states and she's certain to lose the majority of primaries/caucuses from here on out.

But then the Hillbots will blame the media or the sexism of people or the unfair attacks by Obama for her loss. They won't place the blame where it deserves to be: on these idiots who are running her campaign.

On another note -- this could make for a good advertizing slogan. Someone call the Clinton team and kick it off?

That approach seems very close to the Bush strategy. Screw the blue states who will never vote me, screw the people who will never vote for me, I'm serving my base and that's it, I only need 51% of the country to get elected.
