Obama's sister? Is she half sister?
She is working for him in Hawaii and does not look black... and, I thought that his dad left when he was two..

Just curious, don't jump all over.

When she was born, Barack's mom sent him to live with her mother.

15. Wow. I knew that young Barack was dragged off to Indonesia by Mom with husband #2,
and I knew he was sent off back to the grandparents after some years in Indonesia. I wasn't aware that it was the birth of "Maya Soetero-Ng" that precipitated the sending-away.

17. No, not exactly. His mother and sister also lived in Hawaii and then
moved back to Indonesia when Barack was a teenager.

When his mother, a woman said to have been born with a keen sense of wanderlust, announced she was returning to Indonesia, Obama, then a teenager, asked to stay in Hawaii, according to Soetoro-Ng, 36, who still lives in Honolulu. Once again, Stanley and Madelyn Dunham, who had been as much parents as grandparents throughout the young man's life, said he could live with them.

"I don't imagine the decision to let him stay behind was an easy one for anyone," Soetoro-Ng said. "But he wanted to remain at Punahou. He had friends there, he was comfortable there, and to a kid his age, that's all that mattered."

One place Obama has said he found a sense of community was on the basketball court. A member of the varsity squad, though not a starter, Obama and his teammates brought Punahou the state championship in 1979, his senior year

20. I think she sent Barack back because he was getting older
and she wanted him to learn in the United States. In his book I read that while he was in Indonesia his mother would wake him up at 4 am every single morning to study English before he headed to school. ALSO, I think the book said about the time his sister was born they started to have marital problems. So that could have been part of it too. I think within a couple of years the two of them had joined him there.

10. I love that his family resembles
mine and many others I know. A mixture of races and ethnicity, and we all manage to live together in great affection and respect. Obama's family reflects the America I know.

19. Which makes all of those forms that require one to list race
meaningless.

Or when there is a requirement that, say, a grand jury has a certain percentage of blacks.

How would you define black if someone is one quarter Native American, one quarter Pacific Rim, one quarter black and one quarter Russian?
