...Following Hillary Clinton's initial detraction of Obama's appeal with the "just words" comment, the first thing that went through my head was something along the lines of what Obama said in Wisconsin on Saturday night. The phrases, "I have a dream," "We the people," "We hold these truths to be self-evident," "Ask not what your country can do for you," and others cascaded through my head. "If Obama's smart," I told myself, "he'll bring those examples up as soon as possible and underline how ridiculous she sounded."
Within hours, I found similar feelings expressed on the Internet, both here and in other forums. I guess those folks were plagiarists as well.
Thing is, I'd neither heard nor read a single word from Deval Patrick at that point.
When I heard what Obama said Saturday evening, I sat on the couch nodding my head in agreement with every word. It seemed nothing more than the most concise and incisive retort to Clinton's remarks. It still does.
This tempest in a teapot does little more than make the Clinton camp look petty and provides ammo for Obama's assertions.
