Hillary assumes no one listened to or remembered Deval's speech; Barack assumes we did
and would obviously get the reference.

1. The reference? He copied the whole campaign
Same chants, same affect, same message -- it's freaking bizarre.

Obama supporters have been hoaxed.

3. Next you'll tell me Barack is not allowed to use the word "THE"! Do you have any idea
how desperate and stupid your argument is?

16. Jesus. I worked for his campaign, and voted for Deval.
I brought a shitload of voters to the polls.

No wonder it all sounded fake the SECOND time I heard it--it was all COPIED!!!

Here's Deval at the RALLY FOR CHANGE (there's that change word) on the Common. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HhQtoVe-lh8

5. I have to agree. But the funny thing is, it came off as more authentic
with Deval. It just seemed more real.

And he's not supposed to be a terribly good speaker. Maybe it's because he wasn't so polished, so smooth, that it resonated better. Not just the speech, the whole campaign.

15. D'oh! Hillary wants Barack to roll around in the mud with her and cloud the issue
when he in fact has done nothing wrong.

This is politics at its worst.

4. Sorry, but I never heard of Deval before today.
I probably would have been familiar with his speeches is I lived in the State where he is Gov. but I don't. Not even close. I can honestly tell you I don't think I've ever heard any speeches made by candidates running for Gov. of any state other than the one I live in.

12. Don't forget "Yes We Can"
Edited on Mon Feb-18-08 10:27 PM by Marie26
He assumed most people knew about Deval Patrick's local Mass. camapaign? Even down to the slogans & rhetoric? How many people here knew that much about Patrick's campaign - at a site for political junkies? No, Axelrod came up with the themes & slogans of the Patrick campaign & then reused those same slogans for the Obama campaign. Obama has been an Axelrod production from the beginning. That's what really bothered me. People are falling for something that they think is authentic, when really it's just more fake marketing & slogans. It's like we can't even tell the difference anymore.

Obama using parts of Deval Patrick's campaign

(AP) - January 13, 2008 11:00 AM

BOSTON (AP) — Barack Obama told a New Hampshire audience he was borrowing a line from friend Deval Patrick, urging people to "vote your aspirations." He joked that Patrick "stole a whole bunch of lines from me" during his gubernatorial campaign.

Their campaign playbooks have simple yet striking similarities: Tell a compelling story about yourself and inspire people who feel left out to take back their government. Stay on a message of hope and unity. ... Obama strategist David Axelrod, who helped Obama win his U.S. Senate seat in 2004, was a media consultant for Patrick's 2006 campaign.

Steve Grossman, past chairman of the Democratic National Committee, said Axelrod was "quite prescient" in recognizing voter frustration with the status quo, and crafting messages about change. Axelrod did not return calls to comment, but told The New York Times magazine in April that the model for the Obama presidential run was the Patrick campaign.

21. obama and deval are close friends
they have both said they have very close views on the world and what needs to be done. Thus they sound alike. No suprise and no problem for reasonable people. In contrast, Hillary sounds like a liar so she is plagiarizing Bush.

25. I've defended Obama about this, but I wouldn't have known the paragraph...
...was from a Deval Patrick speech if no one had pointed it out.

It's not like Patrick's speeches are all nationally famous.
