Obama's ALOHA SPIRIT
Edited on Tue Feb-19-08 10:30 AM by polichick
Yesterday a reporter at msnbc mentioned that Hawaiians tell her voters are responding to Obama's "Aloha Spirit."

Here's a bit about that spirit ~ certainly seems to fit Obama:

It's not the same kind of "law" as those which make it illegal to rob a bank or steal a car, rather it serves as a reminder of the thread of life that binds all of us and also connects us with the past generations and future generations. It reminds us to consider the other person and try to put ourselves in their place and understand from their perspective. "Breaking" this law carries no obvious penalty such as a fine or being put in jail. Forgetting it does have consequences, the least of which is that things just won't work as well as they do when we remember it! It is similar to the Golden Rule, though not exactly the same in usage. Like the Golden Rule, though, Aloha Spirit can change the world.

1. Yes! I was blessed to live on the Island of Oahu for three years ...
during the 1980s. I was never more content, happy and healthy. They have running clubs all over the Island. Doing all the right things to enrich both your mind and spirit are easily obtainable in Hawaii.

Aloha? Indeedy! HAWAIIANS :yourock: :hi:

7. If I may offer a suggestion: See Kauai if you can.
God, I love that island. It's lusher than the other major islands and has that true paradise feel. :loveya:

15. I was on Kauai for 6 years in the
'90's ShortnFirey..and one of the main reasons I'm going there to retire in 2 1/2 years is the healthy aspect of it all and it's such a perk that my son lives there, too.

9. Something in the Independent (UK)
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/americas-cultural-melting-pot-obamas-hawaiian-years-784045.html

"Hot Obamasadas!" exclaim two large signs strung over the table where Bob is working. A lawn sign is planted in the ground next to him with a life-sized black-and-white headshot of a middle-aged African-American guy with familiar big ears and wide smile. A flower lei is hung around the photograph above the words, written in bright felt-pen colours, "Hawaii's Native Son".

11. Thanks for the article - Hot Obamasadas indeed! :)
"Hawaii imbued in Obama the quality that may be the most compelling of his candidacy. His promise to transcend racial and social differences."

He seems to "transcend" a lot of things, even political nastiness!

17. What FUN - thanks for the link...
I've been traveling and have missed lots of threads in the last week. Did manage to catch a bit of an interview with Barack's sister, who seems delightful and very bright.

14. I lived on Kauai for 6 years ..
my son has been there since 1985 and when I retire the Aloha Spirit is bringing me back to my little grass shack knowing that Hawaiians sent a message to the Mainland, "Obamaloha, Ya'll!" B-)

Obama was raised with that Aloha Spirit..

"Landslide Victory for Obama on The Hawaiian Islands.."
