Dean's new organization and an op-ed

Dean Campaign Evolves, Refocuses

This op/ed by Governor Dean was published in the Cleveland Plain Dealer this morning.

My run for the White House ended last month. But for me, and for my supporters around the country, our work to take this country back has just begun.

As I have long argued, the Democrats cannot beat George W. Bush by meeting his extreme agenda halfway.

To win, Democrats must stand up strong for our principles, not paper over our differences with this president. We must expose the ways in which Bush's policies benefit the privileged and the far right. We must confidently advance an agenda rooted in hope and real American values opportunity, integrity, community.

1. I miss Howard Dean

I know he's still here, but not quite as I was hoping he'd be.

3. Dean again has an excellent idea! Democracy For America, com rocks!
Edited on Thu Mar-18-04 11:40 AM by papau
I think Democracy For America's principal goal of using the 600,000-strong Dean e-mail list to promote candidates who share the values associated with Gov. Dean is the right idea.

I hope it remains a potent, grassroots fundraising force for Democratic candidates, perhaps working with Meetup to promote local, progressive political and community networking.

18. If he could get those 600k supporters
and I am one of them, to kick in $20 a month for 6 months, we would raise $72 million...

That could be $1 million for 40 of the closest House races...
And $6 million for 6 Senate races....

Plus, a large number of vulnteers to get involved in GOTV and voter registration drives in affected elections....

Think that would get anyone's attention?

It might even win back Congress.....

4. Some deaniacs are still out there
My son said that he has seen young people out at places where people wait for buses handing out voter registration forms. I am so proud of them. If the younger people get involved like that we can win. Would not hurt the retired people to hit the places where older folks get together. Deaniacs with small personal actions could make a big difference in the long run.:hippie:

7. I'm proud of him for continuing the fight
With Dean staying out there and encouraging the grassroots movement along with the liberal network that other Democrats are in the proccess of starting, I think this party will be far more successful than it has been over the past several years.

What I love about Dean is that he plays offense when all the other Democrats seem to either wait for the pubs to attack and go on the defensive or refuse to fight at all. Too many things are going badly right now to not speak the truth.

9. People don't understand that he is *keeping* a lot from leaving the party.
He really hammered that in today about NO 3rd party. He was firm, he said there was too much at stake. He specifically asked that none of his supporters vote 3rd party this time.

11. Dean should be a regular guest on Garofalo's radio show
she did support him after all. It would be smart in my opinion to have him call in on a weekly basis or something like that.

12. We once again have a leader to lead the Democratic Party & to show the way
to the promised land. The land that our Founding Fathers gave us and that so much blood, sweat and tears have made even better! Now we have the means to coordinate our efforts, to make all of our work, time and money powerful! I don't have the time or the knowledge to find where and to whom I should be sending my help, on my own. I appreciate there being a movement which I feel a great deal of confidence in, to have done the research for me.

It is more than just getting Bush and gang out of power. It is taking our Republic back and making it work for all the "common" people! We won't do that with just replacing the head of the snake....we must go after every Republican politician wherever they are and make them crawl back into their hole and behave! They can not be trusted with playing in the adult world! They don't play nice with others!

History will show you that the Republicans have done more to harm this country and this world than any other group in the last 35 years. Starting with Nixon, Reagan, Bush I and now Bush II are all Un-American. They have defiled our laws and the Constitution and they have caused havoc with our economy and therefore with our daily lives!

Republicans should be seen, (and that as little as possible) and not heard!

.....Dean is the one who gave the Democrats some BACKBONE. I hope that the Dr. will remain politically active to keep the Democrats in line.

15. Dean is not going away anytime soon.
Howard Dean will become more and more visable and his contributions to the Democratic party, to independents and moderate Republicans, will change or at least add another dimension to the way we elect candidates in this country.

Since there are many people who are not registered Democrats who want better choices in their goverment representatives, Democracy for America can serve their interests too.

16. You are right.
The Dean demographics are quite varied. If they will vote Democratic in the fall, it will really help. That is a big role.

19. It seems that Kerry supporters are still frightened by Dean and his
continued message and his 700,000 supporters! They still want him to go away and be quiet! They just don't get it, that we are going to change this country and Dean is one of the people who, along with the other American's who are sick unto death of what this country has become. Yes, we need Kerry to win the Presidency, but that is hardly the end of the struggle! This is just the beginning. With Dean's new movement, we can give Kerry a Congress that will work with him and us. We can make the changes that are needed!

I liked what Dean had to say today on Hannity & Colmes. He said we need to go back to the Center! To work together to repair the ills this country has!
