Hillary says she's Proud2BAmurkin
In a rally tonight in south Texas, Hillary played the Michelle card:

=="This country has given me so many opportunities," Clinton said. "I am proud of the United States of America."==

Well, what do you expect
what with her husband being a closet Communist... err... Republican.... um... Communist Republican...

It's funny. The left things he's a Repub. The right thinks he's a commie.

Same with Hillary come to think of it.

92. That works both ways
Just because Mrs. Obama said something being used against her and her husband, nobody on the left can claim to be proud of this country because it would make her look bad.

33. Half true.
...

Presidential candidates Sens. Hillary Clinton and Christopher Dodd voted against the resolution. Sen. Barrack Obama did not vote.

Obama did, however, vote for an alternate measure, offered by California Democratic Sen. Barbara Boxer, that condemned the MoveOn ad as an "unwarranted personal attack" on Petraeus. It also denounced political attack ads that questioned the patriotism of Vietnam War vets Sen. John Kerry and Max Cleland, a former senator from Georgia who was disabled during the war. That resolution was defeated.

And frankly, I thought the move.on ad was a stupid strategic blunder. pissed me off that they were so tone deaf at such a critical moment. And my Senator, bar none, my favorite politician voted for it, and he's a thousand times the superior of Hillary. If she had a fraction of the integrity Pat Leahy has, I'd be supporting her. She really isn't. Not even close.

46. And while I appreciate that,
it's a column from 2005 and here is a quote from it:

"Clinton ...along with Sen. Robert Bennett, a Utah Republican,... has introduced a bill that would make flag burning illegal. It is probably important to note that this is not a proposed constitutional amendment, and it is written in a cutesy way that does not explicitly outlaw all flag burnings -- just those intended to "intimidate any person or group of persons."

It's irresponsible and embarrassing to have people make these kinds of posta. But they appear to be getting their "talking points" from somewhere. But those giving them out really don't appear to be 'splaining them very well.

Hence the totally opposite original response to this.

25. The Bible said something about pride and being boastful
I prefer Emma Goldman's point of view, rejecting chauvinism and jingoism:

PATRIOTISM: A MENACE TO LIBERTY (1917)

Emma Goldman

What, then, is patriotism? "Patriotism, sir, is the last resort of scoundrels," said Dr. Johnson. Leo Tolstoy, the greatest anti-patriot of our times, defines patriotism as the principle that will justify the training of wholesale murderers; a trade that requires better equipment for the exercise of man-killing than the making of such necessities of life as shoes, clothing, and houses; a trade that guarantees better returns and greater glory than that of the average workingman.

Gustave Hervé, another great anti-patriot, justly calls patriotism a superstition--one far more injurious, brutal, and inhumane than religion. The superstition of religion originated in man's inability to explain natural phenomena. That is, when primitive man heard thunder or saw the lightning, he could not account for either, and therefore concluded that back of them must be a force greater than himself. Similarly he saw a supernatural force in the rain, and in the various other changes in nature. Patriotism, on the other hand, is a superstition artificially created and maintained through a network of lies and falsehoods; a superstition that robs man of his self-respect and dignity, and increases his arrogance and conceit.

Indeed, conceit, arrogance, and egotism are the essentials of patriotism. Let me illustrate. Patriotism assumes that our globe is divided into little spots, each one surrounded by an iron gate. Those who have had the fortune of being born on some particular spot, consider themselves better, nobler, grander, more intelligent than the living beings inhabiting any other spot. It is, therefore, the duty of everyone living on that chosen spot to fight, kill, and die in the attempt to impose his superiority upon all the others.

27. You know, I think if Sen. Clinton came out and defended Michelle Obama in public,
She would skyrocket in the polls. I really think that she would.

29. Oh, I dunno, when did Michelle *become* proud of America?
Please don't imply that it was as her proximity to the family quarters in the WH became more relevant to her personally. Cause that would be bad :(

For what it's worth, I'm proud to be an American and have been long before I even knew who Michelle O was :patriot:

but when you're asked why, it suddenly becomes a private matter?

That's precious.

64. What the hell???
So, now no one can be proud of our country, for fear that saying so would insult Michelle? Show me where Michelle's name was even mentioned in Hillary's speech. There's nothing unusual about expressing pride in America in Texas.

This is getting really, really stupid. And sad, when people have to "watch what they say, watch what they do" (to paraphrase Ari Fleicher) because there may be a chance that the Obamas may be insulted.

89. The Michelle card?
What, putting the word card after her name is supposed to make her untouchable? This is politics, and while she gets to say whatever the hell she feels like saying, her words actually do get to be used by her rivals. She better remember that if Obama ends up being the nominee.
