So why is Obama running commercials on Rush and Hannity in Texas??
One would think that Obama would run from Rush and Hannity like the devil from Holy Water but that's not the case. You see, here in Texas, there's not a lot of Air America coverage so there's millions of us that have no other talk radio when we're out and about but to listen to Rush and Hannity and then cuss the radio. The Obama campaign knows that. Is this an attempt to get the Obama message out in an efficient way to people like me, or is there something more to it?

I noticed back in December that Rush and Hannity were relentless in their attacks on Hillary while they coddled Obama. That's also when I first realized that Obama was implementing the Pity Strategy. That is, Obama went about making himself the victim of the evil and cunning Hillary. Rush goes on at length about what a wonderful person Obama is and how horrible Hillary is. Hannity gushes like a silly school girl with a crush about how wonderful Obama is and how evil Hillary is. And, I documented much that was out there about how Obama made himself out to be the victim and how the right wing along with the far left led the charge while demonizing Hillary. Is there some kind of unholy alliance here?

Why is Obama advertising on far right wing talk shows? It appears to be almost certain that there is an alliance between the right wing and Obama. But is this also a financial quid pro quo? Is it that these right wing extremists promote Obama, and then Obama spends advertising dollars on their show? At this point, one has to ask what kind of deals has Obama cut with the far right wing? I'm going to go listen to Neil Boortz in the next day or so just to see if Obama is advertising on his show too. Maybe some Hillary supporters (surrogates to you Obama people) can let us know what's going on else where in states like Pennsylvania or Ohio.

Lots of questions and likely no answers other than what the excuses the Obamabots and Obama staffers will post here. Imagine in November having to wonder if you're going to be voting for someone that might have cut a deal with the right wing.

Edited on Wed Feb-20-08 11:57 PM by Horse with no Name
He wants to CHANGE the Democrats into God fearing republicans who love them some Hannity and Colmes.
He wants us all to sing kumbaya while playing with o'reilley's falafel.

3. Wanna know my theory?
Conservatives hate McCain, and know they're probably going to lose anyway. And as long as they have to spend 4 years under a Democrat, they'd rather it be someone not named Clinton.

That's why.

27. To cross party lines and try to unify the people of America like...
he talks about allot? Its amazing how McCain and Clinton have no hope in changing the system, they accept that Americans are divided as a people into these dumb ass labeled groups. I don't think that every person that calls themselves a republican is bad or evil and I don't think that every person that calls themselves a democrat is a good person. Why do we have to be divided as a people so the corrupt can continue to do what it wants to us as we continue to divide and fight each other?

5. There are threads on here everyday
That say "Hannity said..." "I just heard on Rush..." There aren't any "liberal" radio stations in the DFW area, hence if you're going to do ads on talk radio it will be a conservative show. Nothing wrong with wanting to reach out. Plus, while I don't listen to Hannity or Rush, I do listen to some of the other conservative radio show hosts.

11. Good memory!
The point that was not lost on many of the 200+ replies was that it was ok to use right wing talking points against Hillary, but everyone was outraged to see right wing talking points posted about Obama.

19. There aren't any progressive radio programs in Dallas
I live here and all of the talk radio stations are wingnuts. There is no other place to advertise. I listen to satellite radio b/c I don't have anything to listen to except NPR.

20. Obama's no longer running to be the president of democrats.
He's already running to be president of the country.

A country that happens to include people who listen to talk radio, and he's gonna need their votes, voices, and support to get his agenda accomplished.

Seems like good strategy to me.

23. why is he running those commercials?
Could it be because of the Telecommunications act of 1996 signed in to law by Bill Clinton?

25. Ok, since when did trying to persuade Republicans become a bad thing?
I understand how easy it is to become nauseous when listening to a right-winger trumpet their political ideas, but if you can find one that will listen...why NOT try to talk to them about issues? My wife's best friend's family are staunch Republicans. We are usually over for at least a couple holidays a year. For many years, I avoided political talk like the plague, because despite their political leanings, I actually liked these people. Eventually the topic came up..and they acted surprised to find out that not only was I a Democrat, but a Dean supporter! They had a little fun with it for awhile, good naturedly, but the talk eventually got more serious and I was surprised to find out that they had at one time been Democrats who became disillusioned with the party after Kennedy. I was also surprised to find out that they were actually quite liberal in some respects. Neither one of them thought a constitutional ban on gay marriage was a good idea, neither of them felt that religion should play as prominent a role in politics as it had, both of them were for stem cell research.

A couple years later, they heard Obama speak at the Democratic convention, and both were blown away. They made some jokes about someone persuading him to become a Republican, and I joked that it wouldn't be easy to find someone persuasive enough to get him to join the dark side.

While I doubt that they vote for Obama, the point is that sometimes you can find common ground even when dealing with people you think you have nothing in common with. We shouldn't avoid Republicans, or reject them when they show an interest in our ideas and philosophy. We should see it as an opportunity. Cutting people off and refusing to listen only serves to isolate them more and galvanize the negativity. There is no reason we can't try to find common ground with people of differing ideologies as long as we don't lose sight of who we are and what we stand for.

26. No unholy alliance
Hillary was the favorite and front runner right up until Super Tuesday. Back in December she was damn near the presumptive nominee. The Rush and Hannity attack machine went after Hillary cause they thougt she was gonna win and Obama was an also-ran. It'd have been a waste of their time to go after him, or so they thought. Obama made the best of the situation.
