Wisconsin Senator Feingold Prepares to Endorse Presidential Candidate

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (AP) -- Wisconsin Senator Russ Feingold still hasn't endorsed a presidential candidate. But the Democrat appears poised to endorse Senator Barack Obama, who scored a triumphant win over Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton this week.

Feingold tells the Leader-Telegram newspaper in Eau Claire that he's -- quote -- "highly inclined" to vote for Obama.

The Illinois senator beat Clinton in Tuesday's state primary, 58 percent to 41 percent.

Feingold says that's a very impressive margin. He points out the inspiration and energy that seem to follow Obama's campaign, and adds that Obama is as sharp as anyone he's met...

19. I don't blame them when they do it this way
Some of them want to see how their states vote first and weigh that in as a consideration.

14. Kucinich in Iowa, Kennedy, Kerry, and now Feingold.....
It is obvious who the REAL Liberal/Progressive (Democratic) wing of the Democratic Party are supporting.

I pray we are looking at an overthrow of the Big Business Wing of the Party and a return to more traditional Democratic values.

"His mind is as sharp as anybody's I've ever met," Feingold said of Obama. "He's done extremely well for somebody with his level of experience."

THis suggest a little bit of hesitancy about the experience question.

You know one thing about these super-delegates. A lot of them are highly experienced pols, who would love to be president themselves someday. They've got to be given a little bit of pause by a guy who shows up in the senate having run against a nullity like Keyes, spends two years doing nothing particularly distinguished, and then looks in the mirror and decides that "he's the one." But once the guy gets out there and starts winning contests, they stand up and take notice. But you gotta think that there's a tiny bit of envy or something still lingering inside of them.

It reminds of Clinton in '92. All the heavyweights didn't get in the race when Bush the First was hovering around 90% approval. So they figure it's a lost cause and the sit on the sidelines. And here comes this little known governor from the backwoods to take the party by storm and capture the whitehouse. Same thing sort of this time, except this time all the heavyweights do actually jump in. Cause this time it looks like our side wins in a cakewalk. But they get their clocks cleaned by an utter rookie, really.

Clearly if this was major league baseball instead of major league politics, Obama would be in line for Rookie of the Year, the Cy Young, and MVP all at once. They guy is an amazing campaigner. And I say this as a diehard Hilary supporter to the end. It's actually pretty impressive, when you think about it, that Hilary is still standing at all. She's been hit by a Tsunami, that's cleared out everything else in its path but she still has an outside chance. (Sort of like the Red Sox being down 3-1 to the Indians in last year's play-offs and 3-0 to the Yankees a few years back.)

21. That's nice, Russ, but we already know that your resentment of John Edwards
is stronger than your feelings about Obama. Your petty spitefulness did not become you then, and its hard to avoid remembering that now that the subject of you and endorsements has come up again. I wish you would just quietly vote for the presumptive nominee, however you define that, so I can go back to admiring your honorable, never-say-die fight against the Bush administration, and forget how you treated the candidate that I believed in enough to give time and treasure to.
