What McCain is NOT saying in his press conf. re the lobbyist scandal
If it were ME being unfairly smeared in the press, and I were giving a press conference to put the matter to rest, I'd show a little outrage, a touch of anger (but still be presidential and clearheaded and cool), and I would say unequivocally something like, "Let me make this perfectly clear. I love my wife. I respect my family. I treasure my reputation. I have not been unfaithful to my wife, and I have not traded my votes in the Senate to a lobbyist for any favors. Nor would I do such a thing."

McCain is so passionless in his press conference. And he is not protesting that the story is ludicrous and that he has not been unfaithful. He's just so wishy washy about it all.

Case in point: When Oliver North, during the Iran Contra hearings, was suspected of being unfaithful (when he testified that at some key time period he was in a hosiery store buying pantyhose for his wife...snickers went thruout the chamber, like, "for your wife, yeah, right.") When he returned the next day, he gave a short angry speech, referring to the snickers and intimations, and put the matter to rest once and for all...."I love my wife. She is my best friend. I have not ever betrayed her, and I resent the snickers and the winks and the suggestions that I have EVER been unfaithful to my wife."

1. On the other hand...
I see your point, but I thought he sounded much more sincere (I'm not saying he's innocent--I have absolutely no idea). But, if he came out with anything sounding like "I did not have sexual relations with that woman" it would have sounded more suspect. And as a politician he has to figure that sooner or later someone will accuse him of something or another (even if he's pure as the driven snow)--showing outrage would imply that he can't even fathom someone coming up with such a story, and that would be unbelievable as well.

The timing of the story is interesting, however...

5. That's a switch and bait tactic...talking about WHY an article was printed so you don't have to..
discuss the substance.

I would expect at the least that he'd say he loves his wife. I am guessing that he does not, in fact, love his wife. If he did, he would say so. Or...he is a very cold fish.

Gimme a break.

McCain denied nothing because nobody asked him point blank if he had SEX with that woman like they did Clinton. Anyone who banged some lobbyist for favors can easily claim they never had a "romantic relationship" with any lobbyist, and that's all that McCain said was that he didn't have a romantic relationship with that woman. That tells me that he's guilty as charged or he would have come right out and said he had no sex with her.

6. True. But if it were my husband, I would definitely notice that he was barely
acknowledging my presence on the podium w/him, and that he didn't mention his duty and obligation to me and his family, and his love for me.

It's as if he is giving a statement that his lawyer gave him to say, being careful not to say he's not been faithful, so he can't be accused of lying, if proof is ever found.

4. No kidding. All he said was that he didn't have a romantic relationship with that woman
He never said that he didn't sex with her, though. I can't believe how this is going right over the tops of everyone's heads.

to calm his temper. Bad move. Voters will know he was hiding something.
