By Friday the story is dead and McCain is more popular with the republicans then ever.
Even now - less then 24 hours later - its being framed as a smear.

It doesn't matter what we post here, the MSM are making McCain look like a victimized old man.

They are not talking about McCain - they are talking about my the NYT did this, with anonymous sources and timing.

Every RW person that came out against McCain are now behind him and defending him.

If the NYT does not have anything more to add to this story, this story helped McCain enormously.

He walks away stronger with the republicans before the story came out.

MSNBC has even floated the idea what McCain planted the story so he knew that the RW base that didn't like him, would then come out for him.

This is how good this "problem" is for McCain.

If you think anything bad is going to come out from this, or McCain is hurt in anyway - you are sadly mistaken.

Where is Obama? Where is Hillary on this? They are staying FAR THE FUCK AWAY from this story.. because they know whats going to happen.

By Friday this story will be dead and McCain walks away a hero of the RW party.

Bank on it.

2. Yep...
This story was floated by the McCain camp to rally conservatives to his side.

Nothing gets conservatives as riled up (except maybe the thought of a Hillary presidency) as taking on the NY Times.

Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity were just placed FIRMLY in the McCain camp by this story.

VERY SHREWD move by the McCain camp. They just solved their "conservative defection" problem.

11. I still think you're wrong
Olbermann was just reporting a big story. It wasn't bait for anything.

Are you claiming the NYT is in on it? Maybe they are, but wouldn't that mean that the NYT is not what the GOP says it is?

That said, I'm still not seeing how this story can be anything but negative for McPain. It blows his lobbyist rhetoric out of the water and proves he's a corporate scumbag like all the rest of the corporate scumbags. Maybe Rush likes that, but I don't think the voters do.

7. Hmmm....

An interesting conspiracy theory but I think that the NY times has more, it's too creepy & McCain looked guilty. I do wonder what wonder drug his wife is on, though, that enables her ramrod stance at his philandering side...

13. I remember the Bush drunk driving story in 2000
The story broke and instead of addressing the fact that a would be president put lives at risk by driving drunk, the focus on TV was all about HOW the story was broken and the eccentric man who dug up the arrest record.

15. exactly I saw this angle last night. The real hit will be in tonights debate
the NYT is helping mccain, remember they endorsed him. he gets sympathy and rallies the radio conservatives. Anyway, I signed up after not having been here for a couple years because I have it from someone who should know that Hillary is going to be asked about the mccain scandal in the debate and sympathize with him and say she has been hit with unsubstantiated charges and she also knows Obama sympathizes because there is a man out there making horrible unsubstantiated charges about him right now. Forcing the media to explain it. the person that told me this is a huge Hillary supporter and she was very excited about this. said "this will bury Obama while making Hillary look like a saint for feeling his pain. and she was really laughing. Who knows, maybe my source has lost her mind but she is a big mukety muck in local politics and has proven right before. I'll be watching.

16. The evangelicals will remember this
It may blow over with mainstream Repugs (if there is such a thing) but the evangelicals will not forget. They may forgive, but they won't foget. Some will no doubt be turned off and stay home. I think it's safe to say this crucial GOP voting block wasn't exactly enamored with McCain in the first place this issue, true or not, does him NO FAVORS with these people and when they're not motivated or when they're turned off, the GOP suffers.

17. 100% wrong...
If the NYT does a hitjob on you (in their eyes) - they are 10000000000000000000000% behind him. Listen to the right wing blogs... and the callers that are calling in on all the RW shows... trust me... they hate NYT alot more then a possible affair.

18. 100 percent right
I live in ground zero of fundie hell. I've grown up around these people and know how they think. They hate the NYT, the liberal media, and all of that, but the seeds of doubt have been planted. And as I said, this group was not enamored with McCain to begin with. That fact is not debatable.

The NYT has propped up Bush and his wars for about 6 of his 7 years, why would they hate them?

20. Neither HRC or BHO need to come near this for fear of looking
like they are stoking it. It will play itself out, but perhaps not in a way that's good for McCain. For one thing, the story really can't be reported without noting the other scandals that McCain's been involved in, such as Keating Five, Cindy's drug use (investigated by the DEA), etc.
