My thoughts on these General Election match-up polls: Ignore them!
I think it's way far off to look at polls from states showing Obama vs. McCain, and Clinton vs. McCain.

Someone posted Obama six points behind McCain in Kansas. While that's promising for November, it's still way far off and a lot can and will change.

First off, the conservative base isn't 100% sold on John McCain just yet. Despite the conversative endorsements, the calls for party unity--the conservatives are still resisting John McCain. And many of them probably will until Mike Huckabee leaves the race. My thought is in the General Election, McCain will move to the right. And he'll pick a strong conversative like Huckabee as the VP nominee of the Republican party. But until then, McCain is extremely weak at this point.

Second off, the Democratic race is getting a lot more air time. I think voters at this point are getting a lot more about Obama and Clinton than McCain. Just wait for the corporate media to turn on the Democratic nominee, remember when they did in 2004? It's bound to happen, and I'm sure McCain will get plenty of decent press while FOX News and CNN will beat up on the Democratic nominee and make them answer every distortion and lie the RW attack machine will throw at us.

Third off, remember in early summer of 2004? John Kerry was spanking George W. Bush in the polls, and he was leading the race for the Presidency. At one point, I thought the race was going to be an absolute landslide for the Kerry-Edwards campaign. And it ended up being almost as close as the race that Bush "won" in 2000 against Al Gore. The poll numbers change because the dynamics change.

So it's great to examine these polls, but they should be taken with grains of salt.

It's good to see Obama and Clinton leading McCain in some important states. But don't get arrogant or too confident. This is STILL going to be a tough election, and we shouldn't take anything for granted. The Republicans are willing and ready to throw everything, including the kitchen sink, to maintain the status quo and continue the Bush policies for years to come.

So for the sake of our party, and the sake of victory--post them, but post them and read them with grains of salt. And let's be sure we don't gloat or get confident about the race in November.

Victory will be ours: if we work hard for it!
