Edited on Fri Feb-22-08 03:42 PM by D23MIURG23
His victories were always razor thin and even then only by way of Diebold, mass movements of the repuke footsoldiers, and illegal electoral fixes.

Obama has swung past Clinton's double digit leads of last fall to gain victories of the same magnitude within months. Call me Kool-aid, but I don't see that as the mark of ineptitude.

...and then with a nicely turned phrase. He is VERY good at that.
I am so tired though of the - bring people together stuff. What we need now is a fighter, a champion. the MOR may buy that nonsense. we need Hillary to make that difference. I fear he will rollover at the first GOP tickle to the tummy.

He does have way too much empty rhetoric about bringing people together. nice idea but we actually need some forward movement on big issues. Some actual PROGRESS.

42. That attitude which values "rocking" over being a "wonk" is what gave us Bush...
...for the last eight years.

Obama is a lot smarter than Bush, and does have more substance that you can find if you look for it... but as a voter, if you're dissing Hillary for being a "know-it-all" (God forbid a President act or BE SMART!), you're acting just like the idiots who passed up voting for Gore in 2000 and Kerry in 2004, all because they'd rather have a "reg'lar guy", "someone you could have a beer with" in the White House.

And then their queen can go back to the senate and continue to refuse to acknowledge her IWR vote was wrong, let alone apologize for it, and continue to happily vote for even more war funding for that clusterfuck disaster.

She and her campaign grossly underestimated the size, strength and breadth of those against Iraq and the occupation, and the depth of their anger; it's costing her big-time and deservedly so.

55. Hillary's stance on when and how to meet with foreign goverments (i.e. Cuba) shows the
differing styles. By meeting with a foreign goverment (hostile or not) without preconditions is just plain naive. Hillary is right about being methodical, knowing what to expect going in so America always has the upper hand.

The two senators are close on issues so if Sen. Obama is wrong so is Sen. Clinton. Sen. Clinton voted for the war. I'm looking for a candidate that makes good decisions and can refrain from negative campaigning. Sen. Obama's disposition is welcoming.

90. LOL, you know what's arrogant
Putting on the cloak of inevitability, acting like the nomination is yours, that you deserve it, all a year out from the first contest. This is exactly what Hillary did, and her hubris cost her. She threw everything she had into a frontal assault on a front loaded primary contest, and when she came up short, she was left without a Plan B and scrambling for cash. Her pride went before her fall.

Oh, and speaking of arrogant, acting like you're the be all and end all of political commentary is, well, arrogant. You don't have the "end of story" neither do I. So please calm down your own arrogance and hubris, otherwise you'll wind up having to take a fall, just like Hillary is.

In each of her speeches - especially after California, New Hampshire, Florida, New York, New Jersey, she always indicated there was a huge fight ahead.

And before Iowa, that you confuse her vigorous campaigning and the hard efforts she put into it as if she 'acted as if she concurred' is merely a revelation into your confusion, not on what Hillary actually meant.

134. You weren't here. And Hillary did not campaign vigorously in Iowa.
She campaigned lazily because they just assumed she had it in the bag. TwoSparkles had an excellent thread a couple of days ago on why Hillary lost Iowa, and she was dead on in her analysis. Her experience of Hillary's campaign was the same as what we experienced here. Hillary went for big flash in the pan events in a handful of urban centers and did not bother with people in rural areas or small towns. She did not develop the ground campaign or bother with the little folks. It came back to bite her.

153. Inevitability was part of her strategy
Such arrogance led directly to the idea that Clinton could simply project an air of inevitability and be assured her party’s nomination. If she wins—as she very well might—it will be in spite of her original approach. As one former Clinton staffer put it to me last spring: “There was an assumption that if you were a major donor and wanted to be an ambassador, go to state dinners with the queen—unless you were an outright fool, you were going to go with Hillary, whether you liked her or not. The attitude was ‘Where else are they going to go?’”

It’s important to emphasize that Solis Doyle was not the architect of the Clinton strategy. It was devised and agreed to by many of the campaign’s top staffers, and the candidate herself signed off on it. But in all my reporting and personal experience with the campaign, Solis Doyle probably embodied it more than anyone else. It’s not unfair that she lost her job; but it is unfair that no other senior staffers appear to be in danger of losing theirs.

107. Bullshit. She was primarily responsible for
that and fed it big-time. She told Katie Couric in an interview months before the first primary that "I WILL be the nominee, period." SHE said that. And her supporters on here have been forcing her down our throats for a year now, saying that she WILL be the nominee, get used to it and get over it. No fucking thank you.

And her hubris has also cost her in that she apparently had no back-up plan to deal with any serious opposition, so that she resorts to negative attacks and smearing, lashing out like a desperate, wounded animal.

116. Oh please. If you believe that a candidate saying things like "I will be your next president" ....
is pumping inevitability, - - then all of the candidates, yes even your Obama, were just as guilty.

And the same is true for that "I will be the next nominee", an even weaker phrase.

Why do you listen so closely to what Hillary says and ignore the other candidates? That could be your problem, not Hillary's, you know.

113. Excuse me, but just because you scream it in caps doesn't make it so
"When Couric asked Clinton if she'd be disappointed not to be named the nominee, Clinton answered: "Well, it will be me."<http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2007/11/26/couric-to-clinton-has-sh_n_74195.html>

"Responding to statements by some Democratic rivals that she is not electable because her negative ratings are too high, she pointed to her increasing lead in national polls. "I am winning," she said. "That's a good place to start." <http://www.boston.com/news/nation/articles/2007/10/11/clinton_vows_to_check_executive_power/>

"She just told all these people she's gonna win," the participant said. "There's no incumbent, the timing's great and she's gonna win." <http://www.rawstory.com/news/2007/On_call_with_donors_Clinton_says_0121.html>

Yes, the MSM did try to help her out with the whole inevitability thing, but the fact of the matter is that whole meme came from Clinton herself. She and her campaign thought that she was invincible, and instead wound up with feet of clay.

Hint, before you make big, broad statements it helps to actually do some research.

First, a bit of netiquette for you. There are indeed a few abbreviations, like LOL, that are expected to be in caps. To do so is not screaming. Putting entire phrases in caps however is considered screaming, which is what you did.

Secondly, I'm noticing that you're not replying to the substance of my rebuttal. Hmm, why is that? Oh, yeah, it shows you up for the disinformation that you're spreading. A suggestion, if you're going to spread such disinformation, like saying that Clinton didn't think that she was inevitable, be prepared to be called on it.

The obvious point, though, is that invoking the arrogant/uppity racial stereotype is a mighty republican thing to do. We'll get enough of that in the general election.

Unless Hillary makes a comeback, in which case we'll get all the stupid "Is a woman ready and able to be Commander-in-Chief" shit.

Clearly - she actually IS ready from day one. Her command of the issues is impressive. she is - in fact - commanding.

I am not an Obama hater (in fact until the attacks on Hillaray really geared up I was not that in favor of her at all. I am aware of the flaws) but he seems still rather unformed and rather manipulative. She is clearly the commander in all ways.

To miss her brilliance and command in the WH will be an unfortunate mistake for the party and the country. Why should we have to settle for half measure on health care? we have waited too long.

While he relaxed later, this nervousness he manifested over debating with Hillary is not a good sign of what he will do with enemies of The United States, which to anyone with any common senses should make him even more nervous. The Hillary people on here seem to spend their time coming up with endless derogatory nicknames for those of us who have the gall to support Obama and not Hillary. "Obamababies, Obamabozos, Obamamaniacs, O-bots, Obamessiahs, Obamaramas", etc. and on and on. And they delight in pounding them into a lot of their threads. Yes, I've seen Hillhound, Hillbot and Shrillbot and those are just as disgusting. But I don't see them nearly as much as the other ones and we don't spend our time coming up with more and more derogatory names for Hillary people.

Mr. Pot, there's a Mr. Kettle on line three. Sheesh.

137. Plagiarize is Plagiarize no matter what is said WE not electing D.Patrick
How many kids have been kicked out of school because of Plagiarizm. After all we aren't choosing between D Patrick and Barack Oabama, we are choosing between Hill, and Oabama, and she is right in bringing this up in the debate.

139. Yeah, yeah, I know. If we could only see, we'd be convinced.
Obama supporters have only spin, and Team Hillary is armed with caps-locked FACTS. They're night and day. She's right, and he's wrong.

Then I wake up and realize that their voting records are nearly identical.

140. Exactly:
"Then I wake up and realize that their voting records are nearly identical."

...and that's why his great "movement" is so perplexing.

152. The one coming off as arrogant here...
...is you.

And more than a little sad.

If you think that Hillary and Barack differ on the "issues" more than they agree, you are a fool. So you might want to think twice about criticizing Obama's positions.

154. If you read my post - you wouldn't have made yours.
I said "where they differ" as in they don't very much.

But I will not support Obama because his position on my most salient issue is against mine.

...and no, they barely differ on their proposed policies.

Your complaint, I believe, are the beliefs of people who they have associated with (even though they have both been know to associate with people whose beliefs you abhor).

But you're doing a super job anyway.

Smile - he'll be your candidate soon. :hi:

Unless of course you're going to put personal pettiness above what's best for the country.

If Hillary is the nominee I would vote for her without hesitation, because I care about what's best for America and know that a Clinton or Obama Presidency will help real people and save real lives over a McCain nightmare.

179. Yeah, that's what I thought. Another person putting pettiness and personal shit above the country
and the party.

Like I said, I'd vote for Hillary if she was the nominee, because I care about more than this personality contest we've got going on right now. Either Democrat in the White House saves real american lives and helps real American families. It's not abstract... its not hypothetical. It's REAL.

If I sit out on the sideline because "my guy" didn't win then I am complicit in the death of every soldier that will die in McCains hundred year war. Every family that does not receive the help they need from an increase minimum wage, or health care reform, or tax relief to the working class, or a better educational system - I'm responsible.

I'm telling them, "hey - my stubborn pettiness is more important than your lives."

And I'm just not willing to do that.

But clearly you are, so.....
