Mine is 6 yrs old and don't have fast hookup. Be nice to be able to, but sometimes I just gotta suffer. I'd like a new computer though, let's do a high end laptop with DVD copying capability so I can pirate movies too, ok?

108. That can be a challenge. I don't have a super fast connection, either
(DSL) but it is fast enough to watch the line. When I am on travel and go places with a better connection, I can watch TV shows fairly well on the thing. My machine isn't terribly fancy, either. They seem to be making strides with streaming video lately--it doesn't seem to take as much "ooomph" to get a decent picture.

Unfortunately, I'm not one of those rich folks, otherwise, I'd buy a bunch of people new computers! All of our spare cash is going to help out a old family friend who is terminally ill with no insurance...

36. Oh bullshit, she made a big fat FOOL out of herself
after Obama made the audience laugh with his comments on the "silly season of politics." He had a sense of humor and she clearly demonstrated that she DOES NOT. He had also commented on how important it was to not "tear each other down" and she was totally oblivious and tried to do it anyway, ignorant of what the majority of the American people are wanting (you excepted, obviously). She also does not know when to quit, and it hurt her. Badly. If this gets any press beyond the live debate, she will have disgraced herself in a major way.

So, what was that Standing O for Clinton at the end--sore, pro-Big O asses needing a stretch?

You're offensive and ill-mannered. I never said anything about any 'people meter'. My comments were based on hearing a chorus of audible boos from the audience. And I'm not 'thrilled at the performance of my messiah' (I actually haven't said ANYTHING AT ALL regarding that, thanks; check if you don't believe me). You should bother to ascertain exactly who you're responding to, and what they actually said.

82. You might consider asking yourself this question:
if you manage to offend EVERYONE whose opinions diverge somewhat from your own, and they ALL ignore you...what do you accomplish by continuing to post here? Mightn't you just as well be in an echo chamber? If everyone agreed on everything, there would be no point to discussion at all. And I don't really see why it shouldn't be possible for there to be a constructive dialogue between people who may have somewhat differing opinions, but who nonetheless agree on many points (e.g. the people here in what is, after all, a partisan political discussion forum). If you think it's REALLY beneficial to promote greater division through incivility, then I really feel rather sorry for you.

you.

I suspect you like playing the victim, though, because you keep griping at me about how terrible I am. You can feel sorry for me, or not, I really don't care one way or the other. You should learn to 'care a bit less' on this anonymous discussion board, too. It would reduce your angst, and perhaps you'd stop taking every comment that isn't a cheerleading chant for your viewpoint so very personally.

A cordial ending to the big Austin debate
By Robert Quigley | Thursday, February 21, 2008, 08:57 PM

The Democratic debate in Austin, which was sprinkled with sharp barbs, ended with a friendly moment between the two candidates. The candidates were asked about the times they were tested the most, and Sen. Hillary Clinton drew a standing ovation with her response.

Hillary's applause bled into the standing ovation -- it wasn't a continuation of applause for her.

Even though I liked Hillary's closing statement and actually thought it was better delivered than Obama's, you stubbornly cling to the belief that the audience gave her a standing O, despite the fact that Obama and Hillary stood up at the standing ovation, not to mention the debate ended immediately after that.

The producers didn't verbally signify the end of the debate to the TV audience, but instead physically signaled it to the studio audience, hence the standing O - the same thing the audience did before and after every break.

they were out to "get her," you see. Really quite laughable.

83. You have consistently been one of the nastiest and mean-spirited Clinton supporters.
I know plenty of people on this board who are able to promote Clinton without being rude, condescending, and snarky at every opportunity.
You are not one of these people.

I correct the record, and I, unlike most of your "squad" actually provide cites for my assertions.

You might try it sometime.

12. She tried to get cute over a nonissue and went negative
about the so-called "plagiarism" that was not plagiarism. If a person gives permission for a line to be used without attribution, it's not plagiarism. She tried to score some cheap points, and the audience wasn't buying it.

20. It wasn't a line
It was a whole campaign -- speech affect, message, everything - even the crowds even had the same chants of "yes we can."

Do some research -- you may find that Obama is a SHAM.

The "movement" was staged.

37. "Do some research." Hmmm. Why didn't I think to do that?
:sarcasm:

I guess that anyone who comes to a different conclusion than you simply hasn't done the necessary research.

I'm so ashamed of myself for not researching the candidates before I vote. :sarcasm:

(BTW, I've already voted, and didn't vote for either Obama or Clinton---I guess though, if I'd done my research I would have voted for Clinton, right? Because, that's the ONLY candidate that an INFORMED person could ever vote for, right?

41. You mentioned that it was "a line"
If you'd looked deeper into that particular issue, you might not feel that way -- this was a copy of a campaign that went far beyond just a line or two.

It was obvious to me you likely had not researched it. Sorry to elicit all those sarcasm thingys.

15. if you are a rabit hillbot, you loved the line, everybody else hated it. she got booed by the crowd
i was watching the live feed on cnn that measured people's reactions, and when she made the xerox comment, her "favorable/negative" response went way, way down.

i personally thought it was disgraceful, and the actual word "xerox" is frankly, archaic in 2008. but the hillary supporters will like hte line because they want to see somebody beat up obama. i doubt it changed anybody's minds in her favor. wisconsin proved that.

Edited on Thu Feb-21-08 10:01 PM by Starbucks Anarchist
Hillary mocked Obama's "Change we can believe in" motto by saying, "Change you can Xerox," referring to the "plagiarism" incident on his part.

There were quite a few boos after she said that.

44. lol I had to laugh at how many people got on the thread and
didn't answer the question

1) Obama responds to a direct question that getting a suggestion from his National co-chairman and using a couple of lines with his permission is not plagerism

2) He then goes on and casts it as "silly season" and everyone is in basic agreement and he gets wide applause as he says this is an example of what has been the problem with public discourse in politics more applause

3) Hillary then goes into an obviously rehearsed line about if your whole campaign is based on the importance of words then they should really be your own. There is big applause from a very few ardent supporters but it is obvious that she is just stroking the partisan flames that Obama just said we are not going to get into and everyone had enthusiastically agreed to.

4) Hillary having started the riff and getting a little rise from her supporters brings in the punch line "this isn't change you can believe in its a xerox" or something like that. And there are pretty enthusiastic boos. But it was so obviously scripted you couldn't help but realize that Hillary is trying to make points by criticism of not stoping and giving accreditation when if fact she gives a line that has been obviously written for her - and she doesn't give credit to the writer.

I am sure that her partisans think it was great. I think you can officially mark it the end of her campaign. After that she it seemed very strange as if she had been given two competing scripts and when the first script did not work threw that away and started with an entirely different tone. Now everything was hunky dory and she was honored to be on stage with Obama.

46. She is digging a hole in sand ...
whenever she goes after Obama ...

Obama is SO on the high ground with his message being both relentlessly and powerfully, and highly disciplined in a positive manner ... And, it just caves in on her when she takes shots at him ...

Time after time since he started closing on her in January, when she goes after him, it has a negative sum effect for her ...

When Hillary made her closing remarks. Very conciliatory and genuine and it was pretty obvious that her situation is sinking in and she wants to be perceived as gracious before she leaves the race.
