Hillary Clinton "Plagiarizes" John Edwards In Her Closing Moment
Edited on Thu Feb-21-08 10:35 PM by kpete
Clinton's wonderful final answer? Plagiarised?

February 21, 2008

An echo from Hillary

Several readers, and Obama's staff, heard an echo in Clinton's closing line, that the candidates on stage would be "fine."

Clinton Tonight: ?

You know, whatever happens, we're going to be fine. You know, we have strong support from our families and our friends. I just hope that we'll be able to say the same thing about the American people. And that's what this election should be about.?

Edwards the December 13 debate:

?What's not at stake are any of us. All of us are going to be just fine no matter what happens in this election. But what's at stake is whether America is going to be fine.?

Some borrowing is fairly normal. What's been striking about the two Obama moments is that they were almost verbatim. This one isn't that; but it's still pretty striking.

Hillary tonight:

"You know, the hits I've taken in life are nothing compared to what goes on every single day in the lives of people across our country."

In another ad Mr. Clinton faces the camera and says, "Some people say I've taken some hits lately, but nothing like the hits the American people have taken."

It was pretty much a concession speech in my view...that's why the crowd went wild...

14. Wow, politicians nicking phrases off of each other. Like that hasn't happened
C'mon people, in this regard politicians are like comedians, the most sincere form of flattery is to steal a line from somebody else.

This has gone on for years and decades, in every election cycle.

19. That's the point though.
It makes her look hypocritical after that Xerox comment.

27. It looks stupid going back and forth, tit for tat, squabbling on and on, not addressing real issues
And only engaging in non-issues. She got punished for the Xerox comment, and I wouldn't be surprised that the whole plagiarism flap goes away. Good riddance.

15. That occurred to me instantly.
I don't really mind her borrowing the line, but it's pretty ballsy of her to do that after her campaign made such a big flap about Obama's "plagiarism."

16. we're going to be alright
Hillary would have alleged that he had xeroxed one of John Edwards's speeches.

I have been trying to stay out of this since I can and will vote for either one. However, Hillary is really making the decision easy for me.

24. Please tell me this is going to DOMINATE the news cycle for DAYS like Obama's supposed infraction
has. Oh, of course not. Its Hillary. And Hillary can do anything and get away with it while railing at other people for doing the same thing.

No shame. No pride. No dignity. No integrity. Nada.

25. It won't dominate because Obama IS above the fray...
He would rather talk about issues instead of stooping down to Hillary's level of the politics of personal destruction.

weak defense, anyway, I think, to a cheap shot by Clinton. That's the way this should play politically.
