"We are just heartsick over this loss of life in the line of duty"
Edited on Fri Feb-22-08 12:36 PM by bigtree

"I have just learned of the death of a Dallas police officer in a devastating accident that occurred as the motorcycle officers were leading our cars to this site," Clinton, a New York senator, told reporters.

"We are just heartsick over this loss of life in the line of duty," Clinton said. "This reminds us once again what our men and women in law enforcement do every single day."

`It is important that we respect and appreciate their service. I certainly am grateful for all they do for me and, more importantly, they do for the citizens of cities like Dallas and across the country. I just want to express my deepest condolences to the family and the Dallas police department for this tragic, tragic accident.''

***UPDATE: Out of respect for the fallen officer, Clinton cancelled her afternoon rally in Fort Worth, and will make a quick stop to meet with the officer’s family before leaving for Ohio.

9. Please don't politicize this....
There is no such thing as a perfect display of sympathy. Someone dies in front of you....you feel it....period.

26. Seriously...thank you for pointing out my post.
I read a few minutes ago a post in another thread about this tragedy. I gasped when I saw it. Even around here as of late.

I'm glad you took me to task for the wording of my post. This is a horrible, sad death.

29. Just heard on MSNBC Hillary to meet family at hospital
to offer her condolences. She cancelled her campaign rally.

Good for her.

Condolences to the family of the officer...so sad.

Peace:thumbsup:

10. There are no politics in that reply...
Edited on Fri Feb-22-08 12:07 PM by Tom Rinaldo
...she tried to make sure that the inevitable media attention on her did not overshadow the meaning of the loss of that officer's life. I took note of Hillary asking that her condonlences be passed on to the family now while saying she will call them privately herself "when appropriate" later.

It simply is sad.

20. Yes. I know that a lot of us flashed on what we might feel and say
at this moment if we were there instead, it's natural. We can only hope that we could find the right words to express what we felt. We are struggling to do so here. It is sad.

As a wife of a cop, you're relieved when they get assigned to something "less dangerous" than being on the street.

8. Here is more on this horrible accident:
DALLAS — A veteran Dallas police officer escorting Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's entourage to a rally in Oak Cliff Friday morning lost control of his motorcycle and was killed.

The accident happened on the Houston Street viaduct around 9:20 a.m. The Kawasaki 1000 Police Special motorcycle apparently hit a concrete abutment.

HD Chopper 8 pilot Troy Bush, who flew over the scene shortly after the incident, estimated that the officer had been thrown about 20 yards by the impact after apparently hitting a railing.

37. This seems to be a common occurrence
"In the past 18 months, there have been two fatal accidents involving motorcycle officers escorting President Bush."

http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/02/22/clinton.motorcade/index.html

I'm not a very big fan of motorcycles, it's unfortunate that there is probably no safer way to provide the same security.

38. It's a hazard of the work. I wonder if motorcades have been going faster lately
It could be statistical clustering, like it is with airplane crashes. But I've read about how motorcades in DC have become a problem in recent years because so many more power players are using them just to beat the traffic than used to be. Of course there's also a lot of primate dominance display going on there, too.

I really felt bad for her today, and of course terrible for the officer's family.

While there are things in the Clinton campaign that angered me, I've always thought that both Hillary and Bill are people with good hearts. I still remember watching them in Oklahoma city comforting the families and victims of that terrible crime.

Glad I stuck to LBN this morning and missed any nastiness here.

42. He had also escorted Obama's motorcade
He had been with the department's motorcycle unit for little over a month. This was his second assignment; he also was part of the motorcade for Sen. Barack Obama when he brought his campaign to Dallas earlier this week.

After learning of the accident following her Oak Cliff rally, Sen. Clinton offered her condolences to the victim's family and to the Dallas Police Department, calling it a "tragic, tragic loss."

Senior Cpl. Victor Lozada "We are just heartsick over this loss of life in the line of duty," she said. "This reminds us once again of what our men and women in law enfocement do every single day, and it is imprtant that we respect and appreciate their service. I certainly am grateful for all they do for me, and — more importantly — what they do for the citizens of Dallas."

A somber candidate moved to her next scheduled event in downtown Worth at 11:15 a.m., and spoke briefly to supporters about what had happened in Dallas. Clinton left the rally without delivering a stump speech, and said she was going back to Dallas to the hospital where the officer died.
