"Killed was 20-year Dallas police Officer Victor Lozado,
who had a wife and four children, two of them in college."

Very tragic.

I'd think the police would be 'local' and therefore not have traveled the country with her.

It is good of H.C. to spend time with the family - it shows a great deal of class in a profession that too often shows very little.

EDIT: this was meant to reply to the question about whether she knew the officer. I have no idea how I managed to reply to a *kick*.

79. Probably not
The Clintons often meet and thank the local police who protect them during a visit at the end of the visit - shake hands, take photos with them, etc. usually at the airport. If she's still doing this on her trips, it's unlikely that had yet met this officer at this point in her visit.

So sad. Very gracious of her to go speak to the family. Heartbreaking.

I think it's a good thing for her to visit the family, since basically the officer was on duty on her behalf when the accident occurred.

What an appalling thing to happen.

The officer was identified by police as Victor Lozada-Tirado, who held the rank of senior corporal, was in his 20th year on the police force. Police said he was married and had four children.

43. Here's the latest that they have so far:
DALLAS — A veteran Dallas police officer escorting Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's entourage to a rally in Oak Cliff Friday morning lost control of his motorcycle and was killed.

The accident happened on the Houston Street viaduct around 9:20 a.m. The Kawasaki 1000 Police Special motorcycle apparently hit a concrete abutment.

HD Chopper 8 pilot Troy Bush, who flew over the scene shortly after the incident, estimated that the officer had been thrown about 20 yards by the impact after apparently hitting a railing.

She could have had her staff make arrangements for her to personally call the family later.

She did not make those choices. She cancelled her rally and went to be with the family immediately. I'm not trying to make any specific point other than to answer your question. There were other choices she could have made.

70. A very sad day for Dallas!!!
I'm terribly sorry about the death of the police officer. It seems that he was 49 years old and had 4 children. How heartbreaking for them, his wife and the rest of his family.

I'm not surprised at all that Hillary canceled her Ft. Worth rally. As first lady and senator she has always acted with class and dignity when tragedy struck. I remember how she walked around downtown Manhattan with only one secret service person so as not to attract attention while she surveyed the damage and talked to first responders and survivors. I think that in the heat of this race some people may have forgotten that she is one classy lady.

77. This is so sad
and it also brings out the hate scum bag vultures that have infested this place.

I noticed several "ignores" on this thread.

I logged off and saw that I wasn't suprised to see the same carcus pickers.

78. This is absolutely the right thing to do...
...but please... leave the TV cameras and press behind.

The family doesn't need that crap.

83. Just to be clear
Hillary DID appear in downtown Fort Worth (I was there). She spoke for about five minutes, then left to go back to Dallas.

88. It's the right thing to do, but she can't win either way with it.
I give her credit for going though.
