Obama Ohio...True Story
I went in to my local print shop this afternoon wearing my Obama button. The gal that works in there is probably pushing 50. When she saw my button she just got giddy. She explained that her husband has never voted before in his life. He is so excited about Obama's message that he went out and registered to vote! How cool is that? When I wear political buttons I always carry extras so that when someone comments I toss two off, one for that person and one for them give away. By chance her husband called while I was there and she told him that she had scored buttons for him and he was so excited.
Grown people excited about the possibility for change.

My next stop was to the Board of Elections to get my questions about the paper ballot answered. The word there is that they have had over 100 people a day coming in to vote early! This is a huge and unheard of number for our area. I think Ohio is not going to be fooled again and I have a good feeling that the voters are going to do everything to make this race count.

Just passing on some love from Ohio! Go Obama! Peace, Kim

18. Glad to hear about PA.
Of course you guys got it right in 2004 and we let you down. Funny story about 2004 , my friend who is very right wing and all about money has a close friend in PA. Election night, actually 3:00am, when Ohio suddenly turned for * my friend was awakened by a phone call from PA..."What the *ell is wrong with you people?" was the only question. Of course my friend was short on words as she and hubby were all about *. I thought that it was hysterical...and sad at the same time. Peace, Kim

19. Thanks for sharing that!
We were sitting at the edge of our seats in 2004, just hoping PA would go BLUE ~ this time I'm more sure of it.

10. Thanks for the report. Early voting is new in Ohio, isn't it?
Seems I heard that Ohio didn't have early voting back in 2004. Is that true?

Early voting is such a GREAT development. It makes it harder to mislead voters at the polls like the old trick of telling them that Republicans vote on Tuesday and Democrats vote on Wednesday. It also addresses the issue of not enough voting machines or very bad weather on election day.

Here in Texas, we have ELEVEN days to vote BEFORE Election Day. Right now, February 19 through February 29 (yes, even on Sunday) and then March 4. So far, the early voting turnout has been staggering -- "off the charts."

I hope that voting will be the same in every corner of the country.

15. I'm not sure when it was initiated.
I think we have had it at least a couple of years. The great thing about it is if you have a job where you get called away it is possible to vote on Saturdays prior to the election. No fuss no muss! Peace, Kim

24. I think "no-fault" absentee voting is new
which, I *think* has opened the door for early voting at Boards of Elections.

I could be wrong.

12. Another Ohio story - a co-worker of mine, Republican all of his life,
told me the other day he is switching to Democrat so that he can vote for Obama. Has been disgusted with ** (but did vote for him both times) but will not vote for McCain or Hillary. I early voted for Obama yesterday.

20. I got a first-hand taste of the Ohio Obama excitement today too!
:hi:, Kim.

My husband, kids, and I arrived in Toledo this afternoon. We just got back from Obama's office where my husband, son (he's 13) and I phone-banked, while my daughter (15) made signs for the Sunday night rally. The place was packed and everyone was so excited! :bounce: My son was a bit nervous about making cold calls, but it didn't take him long to totally get into it. He was so excited about being part of this and didn't even mind being hung up on! We're meeting back there tomorrow morning for 4 hours of canvassing and then we're heading to Cleveland hoping we'll be able to get in to the rally. We're heading back to IL sometime Sunday.

Thanks again for all your input on the specifics of Ohio. I really appreciate it!

Music to my ears. I will keep my fingers crossed that you and your family get in. I was worried when the weather went to crap down here that you might have trouble in your travels. Can't wait to hear how it goes. Thank you so much! (set jumpy icons here) When you get home I will have to PM you about how to do that wavy thing and the jumping around. Believe me, I am doing that for you now. Peace and love, Kim

23. Thanks for the story
I got a phone call tonight from an Obama volunteer in my county. I told him that I absolutely do support Obama and I am volunteering in the neighboring County (I moved last year - used to be on the Central Committee/Executive Committee, I'm involved in the Women's group and work in that county, etc...) Anyway - he said that was great, thank you so much, here is my contact info in case you need anything...

I asked him if he was involved in the local party in my County as I have been wanting to go to a meeting. He said "No, you're going to hate me, but I'm a Republican." I said "Why would I hate you?" He said, "I've just been so disappointed over the last 8 years and Senator Obama gives me great hope that things can change for the better in our Country". I told him "I agree and welcome". We exchanged a few other comments and said good-bye.

I have thought about him for the last couple of hours. A self professed Republican, volunteering for Obama. Changing his voter registration to vote for Obama.

Now, I know that some will think that it is a negative to have a Republican volunteer for our Presidential candidate. However, the guy is my neighbor. He isn't some right-wing, no-name, secret operative. We were on opposite sides in 2000 and now he is actually volunteering for Senator Obama. He's on our side. Not because he has secret motives. He had no obligation to reveal his party affiliation. He was just being honest and sharing his feelings with me.

He thought I would hate him. Simply because of his party affiliation. I think that is the kind of thing that Barack Obama's campaign cuts through.

26. Obama Button
I'm curious about your Obama button. Is it something produced
locally or did you get it from a website?

27. I have ordered buttons from the Obama campaign.
Edited on Sun Feb-24-08 04:58 PM by peace13
They have not come in yet. I had purchased 100 Kucinich buttons that I didn't get a chance to pass out so I took Obama stickers from my local Obama office and put them over the Kucinich button. Hey, it's better than nothing and very green. If you live near on Obama headquarters they have buttons, signs and materiels for free. Check out the website! Peace, kim
Edited to say welcome to DU and I think it is cool that this was number one!!

28. Obama buttons
I actually have more than 200 different Obama buttons. I use the internet to track down buttons from around the country. I expect after the election is over there will be 3000 plus different Obama buttons.
