4. Most excellent
I'm disgusted that Mark Penn gets paid, while the little guys are hung out to dry, so to speak. x(

12. You're exactly right
Penn can afford to 'go without pay' for a while - an Iowa college student or Boys and Girls Club can't.

8. Why should young people have to spend more money in order to
receive money they've already earned? They should be paid! Both her staff and the media were lied to!

Her comments were after Super Tuesday, which was in February. Showing her FEC report from the end of the month before is backing her up.

9. These were debts owed through January 31st
Edited on Sat Feb-23-08 12:50 PM by Debi
before she informed the press that loaned her campaign $5 million dollars. There is more than $5 million in debt here AND she bought ad time and rented sites for rallied and flew from state to state and had staff working for her from January 31 to present. Knowing the past actions of her campaign do you REALLY think these people have been paid?

Edited:

x( spelling.

17. Yes, I do.
She said she owed it. The records posted said she owed it.

I have no reason to doubt her when she says they are paid.

she needs to say at that moment. You're setting yourself up for a big letdown.

They are notorious for shading the truth. I don't view her as any better or worse than Obama in that regard.

7. I spent some time googling names... These people deserve to get paid for their work!
One person I checked out, is a young graduate (undergraduate 2004, then 2 years of graduate school). She graduated in 2007 and is working full time for Clinton.
http://www.linkedin.com/pub/5/255/649

She is owed 2,000 dollars for a full months work that I bet was a hell of a lot more than 40 hours. She was probably put through the ringer. She should be paid if Penn made millions in one month!

Some leader who cares about her supporters! Ha!

"Fired up for the Lady" indeed!

10. I know, I recognized several of these names
some of them who did not go on with the campaign from Iowa - I doubt they'll ever see their past due income that they earned.

11. this is telling.
her campaign is, I suspect, in far worse shape than people know, and they're scrambling to keep it contained. I have a hunch it's on life support, financially speaking- and that's near everything.

13. Link from another poster - they have NO money -
http://andrewsullivan.theatlantic.com/the_daily_dish/2008/02/january-fundrai.html

<snip>

"According to the reports, Clinton raised about $20 million in January, including her loan. She spent nearly $29 million during the month.

She reported a cash balance of $29 million. But more than $20 million of that is money dedicated to the general election. Her personal loan accounts for more than half of the remaining approximately $9 million, leaving just about $4 million in cash raised from donors. (...)

<snip>

$4 million in cash - $7.6 million in debt = :wow:

15. I think these stories are...
greatly overblown. She is raising still about 750,000 a day. For the first 15 days of the month it was 1 mill a day. What you have is some reporters with axes to grind so they under inflate numbers and report negatives they hear. She or her campaign is nowhere near running out of funds.

23. I'm only comparing the two AND taking Clinton at her word
She said her staff was not working without pay and then filed an FEC report that show she owes SEVERAL staff members pay for past work. With her telling such a blatant lie why should I beleive anything else she says?

(And why the fuck am I reading this batshit-crazy garbage, anyway?)

It's only February.

Karma is going to be such a bitch, and it won't even require us anti-hopesters to gloat over it.

Check out the link I cited in your LAST debtor-kicking thread.

24. If you're comfortable with your candidate spending $130 million and going into debt
$7.6 million (+ a $5 million personal loan) AND telling the media and America lies about how the staff is NOT working without pay. So be it.

And you are correct it IS February, so why does the Clinton campaign STILL owe the Iowa State Fair over $6,000? The fair was in August? Why haven't they paid their Iowa payroll taxes? Why haven't they paid for events held in Iowa? They left Iowa the beginning of January, seven weeks ago!

(and the $10,000 owed to various Hy-Vees was for catering costs for the caucuses - something the campaign SWORE to the Iowa Democratic Party they were NOT doing - just one more lie from the Clinton campaign).

The campaign didn't get struck with a natural disaster, they weren't robbed or mugged, they didn't all lose their jobs and experience uncovered health problems. They spent money like there was no tomorrow and didn't manage it didn't control it and didn't pay their bills. AND LIED ABOUT IT.

Hard to have sympathy for that.
