Hillary plays 9-11 card again
Edited on Sat Feb-23-08 12:36 PM by maximusveritas
With her campaign in dire straits, here comes the fearmongering:
http://embeds.blogs.foxnews.com/2008/02/23/clinton-cites-real-enemies-stresses-need-for-commander-in-chief/
“This is a dangerous world we live in. That is sometimes forgotten, sometimes overlooked in the heat of this election,” said. “But I know it’s true. Because I went to Ground Zero the day after 9-11. I know we have enemies that are ploting against us as we speak. And we need a president and a Commander in Chief that has no illusions about what it will take to defend the United States of America.”

It's an attack drawn from the Bush/Cheney/Giuliani/McCain playbook. She is clearly still stuck in the politics of fear mindset that got us into this dumb war in the first place.

What makes me even more angry about this is that she tried to deny this was an attack on Obama. She says she's just making the case for herself. Does she really think we're that stupid?

Whenever you make the case for yourself, you don't point out things you have in common with your opponent. You try to point out things you have that your opponent doesn't. In this case, she's pointing out she has no illusions about what it will take to defend this country, thereby strongly implying that her opponent does have such illusion. So she's trying to take credit for not directly his national security credentials in the debates while continuing to attack him in this veiled manner on the stump.

Later on, Clinton compares Obama to Bush with regard to his lack of experience prior to the 2000 election. Well I don't think the problem with Bush was his lack of experience. It was his ideology, one that appealed to our greatest fears instead of our greatest hopes. I believe this is what the American people have come to realize and this is why they are flocking to Obama and the Democratic Party.

4. Well, it did kind of work for Bush in 2004
but I think people have woken up since then. The 2006 election and huge surge in Democratic turnout seems to confirm that.

23. Hey, she's all about the Rudy Strategy!!
She's been employing it ever since she woke up on February 6th and realized she hadn't actually won the nomination yet.

It's embarrassing.

3. we need the kind of leader who has no illusions
about the necessity of enabling a towel-snapping frat boy and his oil buddies in their pursuit of oil conquest by authorizing the invasion of Iraq in response to Saudi Arabia's attack on the US.

5. She won't be happy until she throws all her votes to McCain
Jesus, people joke about the DLC being a stalking horse for the Repugs, but here she is actually DOING IT. Unbelievable.

7. Good for her
Voters need to think about it. Obama will be just another thin-skinned, arrogant and ignorant fool with a chip on his shoulder. We don't need another Bush, even with a D behind his name.

9. I think it'll backfire
The vast majority of Democrats like both candidates and they will not take kindly to these kinds of attacks, especially when Clinton is hypocritically whining about legitimate mailers from the Obama campaign that point out policy differences.

When she loses Texas and Ohio by 30 points, will you stop then? Or are you committed to a McCain presidency?

13. Actuallly, he's shown none of those traits.
this is simply another nasty and ineffective attack by you. And not even a good one. Glad I don't have to defend a candidate playing the 9/11 fear card. You'll obviously go along with anything Hilly says. That's some strong koolaid you've been gulping down.

15. I'd be happy if they just stuck to defending her
But since that's impossible, we all get treated to the top ten Freeperville talking points.

16. Another good example
Obama is just not ready. Simple as that. Clinton is not using "fear", but stop and think, right now, our country needs an experienced leader; not Obama, who is still wet behind the ears. Bush was also an "outsider" and we were attacked. Didn't have the slightest notion what to do; he even attacked the "wrong" country. Do you want to an "outsider" to really lead this country in the trying times we live in? The similarities between Bush and Obama is eerie, right down to characteristics.

22. Bush was at ground zero too...big whoop.
And considering she's the damn Senator of New York and Obama isn't what the fuck did you expect?

Sad excuse for logic. You're as desperate as your candidate.

"my number one job as president will be keeping you safe, and I will not hesitate to respond forcefully to anyone who would do America harm..."
