Gay Texan Not Impressed With “Old Fart” Chelsea

Texan Gay Not Impressed With “Old Fart” Chelsea

Chelsea Clinton’s non-whorish campaigning took her to Texas last week, where journo Daniel A. Kusner found himself underwhelmed by the former first daughter’s “soft” gay talk.

My question came next: “I noticed during the gay rights question, you kept using the word ‘civil’ throughout your answer. Why can’t your mother stoop low enough to grant full, equal marriage rights for same-sex couples? Or is the word ‘marriage’ too sacred for the Clintons?”

“Civil unions is what my mother has supported for as long as I can remember. I’m 27, ” Chelsea said.

“But the word ‘marriage’ is off the table, right?” I asked.

“Well, sir … She’s always supported civil unions,” Chelsea said.

Chelsea Clinton is 27 years old, and her forum is a college campus. So why is she speaking like such an old fart? Even Jenna Bush can tell Diane Sawyer that some of her fathers’ policies are too complicated for her to necessarily agree with.

2. I feel for Chelsea. She isn't a campaigner, but has been forced into that role.

19. LOL!
Well, someone had to do it. :toast:

I just feel for her. I would rather crawl in a hole than to campaign.

4. Like Barbara and Jenna would be ALLOWED to "carry message" like Chelsea does.
What a foolish gripe, to complain because she's sharp enough not to go off-script.

Hell, when Donnie McClurkin is appointed as the Faith Based Director, he can do "outreach" to the gay community, and teach them how PRAYER can work for them...

6. This is a good point. Chelsea can at least be counted on to remain sober and vertical.

No LOVE at all?

That's not the Chicago way.

10. If Obama wins, maybe McClurkin will feel secure enough to come out of the closet again.
For all we know, that's the deal he reached with Obama.

"I'll campaign for you, and if you win, I'll be openly gay again and take a cabinet position for myself and my life-partner Brad."

13. Bwahahahahaha!
That was funny....!

It's his BASE, his bigoted BASE, his homophobic BASE, that keeps Donnie sequestered behind the winter coats.

If Donnie came out, he'd have to find a new audience to buy his records, because his BASE would desert him.

18. An Obama win would signal a sea change in American politics that would help him build a new base.

Under Obama, I don't think Progressive Christian ministers (especially those who write books) will starve.

Maybe that is why he's supporting Obama?

Maybe he WANTS a country where he'll feel safe coming out?

20. OK, whatever.....I can't agree, but you've a right to whatever view you want to hold.
Sorry, it's still funny.

And really, really unlikely.

Donnie has made "Pray Away The Gay" a cornerstone of his ministry. His 'big money' comes from record sales from fans who will drop him like a hot rock if they think he's back-slid.

Those Leviticus-quoting Bible thumpers aren't going to put the words of the small 'm' messiah over the big M Messiah. Obama's fine only so long as he's pandering to the storyline that THEY like. The old "Hate the sin, love the sinner" routine.

So, all of the Rainbow Crew for Obama, so long as they are happy being relegated to the "Sin Team," can hope until the cows come home for meaningful change.

About the only thing that might happen is, after all these years of DADT, we'll finally allow OUT gay people to die in uniform when we invade...Pakistan? The integration plans were written back in the mid-nineties, but a GOP Congress managed to fuck that idea before we could go anywhere with it. They're probably still stuffed in a file cabinet somewhere--everything from "sensitivity training" to "medical issues." It was a very thorough effort, but Newtie and Trent weren't having any of it.

21. HA!!! Public Housing.... manor born? She lived in a Governor's Mansion that needed rehab,
and the personal quarters (which are actually very modest) of the White House.

They don't actually hang out in the Blue Room playing cards, or watching tee vee in the Map Room, ya know.

Her parents didn't own a "manor" until they moved to NY.

12. Which candidate does have the word marriage on the table?
Not Obama. His table is filled with McClurkin cds and his statements about agreement with Cheney on civil unions being up to the states. He's also said he thinks marriage is a Sacrament reserved for opposites sex couples, clearly and without reservation.
So knocking Chealsea for supporting her Mom's postition which is the same postition as the other candidate's only stated with far more respect? I'm not sure I get your point.

Again, tell me which candidate has marriage on the table?

14. Al Gore, Dennis Kucinich and Mike Gravel. One of the above is actually still running.

So, once again, we are stuck with a choice between A Giant Douche and a Turd Sandwich.

But the good news is that this is the best Giant Douche and the best Turd Sandwich we've ever had the privilege to choose from.

I would be happy enough with either of them in The Oval Office.

Happier with Obama, but I could live with Hillary, too.

She's certainly better than Straightjacket Express Insane McCain or Mike Huckwad.

16. It's not a federal issue. Marriage is a question left up to the states.
It's a wedge issue. I don't mind a candidate ignoring the issue. I won't count a candidate out for being against marriage equality. I think they're wrong, but it's a question of building popular support on a state-by-state basis.
