Looks like the democratic party is going to be deeply divided in fall campaign against Mclame
Judging by the posts seen here, the Obama/Clinton campaigns going nuclear today, the potential for a bitter disenfranchisment argument over seating FL/Michigan at the convention, superdelegate shennagians and the tremendous hurt that will be felt by one hugely important key element of the base (AA's or women with one of these hugely important groups staying home in November which is worth between 5-7 points in key swing states), Mccain is likely to walk to the presidency in a landslide.

Strong HRC/Strong BO supporters are saying that they will vote for this arrogant pompous old bastard if he wins who wants to send your children to Iraq to die for 100 more years, who will pack the supreme court with yet more justices who will ban abortion, make the death penalty restrictions go away, and eliminate affirmative action, go to war with Iran, reduce health care coverage for all, and most likely get Alzheimer's while in office or die while in office.

What you need to understand is that John Mccain is a media DARLING and the STRONGEST possible GOP nominee since 1980. The media tears apart even the slightest hint of scandal regarding their saint.

Do NOT equate Mccain with Dole. It is a grave mistake.

If the democrats don't unite, the democrats don't have a prayer, especially if the base is bitterly polarized. The media is waiting to tear HRC or Obama apart.

This campaign needs to stay positive and not descend into hysterical charges and countercharges. The only one that wins is that old bastard Mccain and his pompous wife whom is insufferable.

1. I would hope everyone would unite behind our nominee
Hey, I was for Kucinich and don't think either front runner is progressive enough to suit me. But I'll vote for whoever gets the nod, because I know and understand the importance of keeping McCain out of the White House. And make no mistake about it--it won't be easy to keep him out. The GOP lie machine is already at full throttle, and we must make sure that any questionable balloting is challenged. We must unite to tell the general population the TRUTH about McCain and the TRUTH about our candidate and make sure that the election is FAIR.

2. This board is not the Democratic party. It's some people on the tubes with nothing better to do.

4. Oh, yeah. It was obvious from Sen. Clinton's comments today.
She is clearly deeply worried about what's happening to the party right now.

16. The problem I see with our party
It's beginning to move in opposite directions. What I mean by that is I see the progressives going one way and the centrists going the other way. The percentage is pretty much equal on both sides being in the 40's%. We even see this in congress as well. We have the DLC(centrist), and the CPC(progressive). What we have in the two candidates, Clinton and Obama is a mix of both fractions of the party. So we have a choice of voting either Obama or Clinton. However, I foresee in the next several years a split of the two fractions of our party. Obviously progressives want a true progressive candidate as does the centrists. So I think it will be very interesting to see how our party develops over the coming years.

6. Well
Affirmative Action (race) has already been dismantled in schools and employment. So I fail to see how playing the affirmative action card will scare black folks to the polls. With all this affirmative action black people should be so grateful for, why are black folks still at the bottom of the rung on all socio-economical ladders? Even Clinton today said her husband didn't "end Affirmative Action but worked to 'mend' it." I guess I should be grateful for that, huh?

But yeah, I guess we should be united come November.

10. Look at how quickly the media tore apart...
a scandal that is most likely true regarding Mccain. They picked one element that may not have been true and made the whole story o ut to be untrue when it wasn't.

That is the threat that the democrats have to deal with.

Edited on Sat Feb-23-08 07:30 PM by Flabbergasted
anger at Bush co. This will provide unity counter to any of the petty shit that's occuring right now in the primary.

7. The divide has been coming for years, but we've been too busy scapegoating Nader.
Easier than facing the divide and trying to solve it, I guess.

8. DU will only be divided until Mar. 5th.
That's my bold prediction - Clinton will fail to get the 20+ point landslides in Ohio and Texas she desperately needs to stay alive, and very likely will lose both races.

At that point, her big financial backers pull the plug and she'll be forced to bow out.

9. I'm more optimistic!
Lets just say after months of heated (but civil) debate with a Hillary supporter here - I asked him if after all the counter points he has raised against Obama, would he still vote for him if he is our nominee?

His answer:

Not only would he get my vote, but I would work for him as well.

Guess what - my frustration vanished at that person even before I finished reading the response!!!

I think most people here will have a short memory once we are all on the same team. :pals:

12. But posts from...
I believe his name was "grassroots organzier" on DU several days ago promising to vote for Mccain and the vitriole at mydd which is beyond belief, is a bit unnerving.

But yeah, I will accept for now that DU does not represent real democrats. Let's hope not!

Puts that war mongering puke bastard McCain above either of our candidates -

Should be placed on "ignore".

That dude was simply being disruptive and it worked (at least with you).

IGNORE is your friend - and do know, I use it very, very selectively. I do appreciate diversity of opinion - but hate monger trolls, I'll ignore them.

peace~:)

or anyone else running against a Democrat is against DU rules. I hope you alerted the mods, (who have had their hands full with all the disruptors this season!)

11. 99% together.
Just a few holdouts. Better than normal. I knew several Tsongas folks who still won't say the word "Clinton" from 1992.outliers.
