Edited on Sun Feb-24-08 09:30 AM by cryingshame
and a superfluous visual allusion at best.

If you like the pin and want to wear it as an expression of patriotism, that's your perogative.

But it's not necessary.

On second thought, maybe Obama should find or have made a Constitution pin. It could turn the idiot's attempts back on them and make a solid point.

1. Dukakis, a son of Greek immigrants, was attacked as unpatriotic by the rethugs too
The Pledge of Allegiance issue

The Bush campaign also criticized Dukakis for vetoing a bill that would have required recitation of the pledge of allegiance in Massachusetts classrooms. Dukakis felt the law was unconstitutional (The Supreme Court upheld that compulsory recitation of the Pledge was unconstitutional in 1943 in the West Virginia v. Barnette case).

Oh, Dukakis was a "new" candidate of "change" who was ahead of Bush in the polls by 17 in August of 1988...

10. ALL Democratic
candidates are attacked as "unpatriotic" by the Rethugs. It's a Rethug tactic, because they have nothing to run on but war, war, more war and fear. If you are opposed to their policies, then you are "unpatriotic."

14. Which is why it was foolish for Obama to hand them easy ammo with the lapel pin thing

15. If Obama makes an issue of it, it'd be very useful though.

16. Maybe but it is a risk
Look at what these people did with Kerry's war service. Kerry couldn't get the truth out about his record to many people and it will be tough for Obama to get out his message about real patriotism. That isn't something that lends itself to a 10 second sound bite.

22. The only people who honestly give a shit
about whether he wears a flag pin or not would never vote for a Democrat under any circumstances anyway.

These people are the same ones still struggling to find the strength to vote for John McCain because they think he's a liberal Trojan horse. We will simply never get their votes. They're a lost cause.

Fuck 'em.

20. So Obama should march in
lock step with the Rethugs just to show that he lives up to THEIR definition of a patriot, which is someone who hides behind flag pin??

8. On Real Time Friday night the bubble head repug Jack
Something or Another from Georgia railed against Obama for not wearing a flag pin and flatly refusing to say the Pledge of Alliance. He also managed to work in a couple of Barrack Hussein Obama a couple of times, too. Maher called him out on the name thing put sounded like he believe Jackie Airhead when he kept saying that Obama refuses to say the Pledge and wear a flag pin.

The Airhead and Frum both spent the entire hour telling the audience how terrible Obama is, how pathetic Hillary is but McCain - he's their man. It was actually pretty funny the BS party line they spewed. The New York Times is evil (and, gasp!, liberal) and not to be believed. (Guess they have conveniently forgotten the Judith Miller cheer leading lies for them to war, or the constant microscope on anything Clinton for eight years.)

Loved it when Maher called them both on their sh*t - he said you BOTH supported Bush, what does that say about you (paraphrasing here!). Maher got in a few Bush is stupid, terrible, horrible and you guys still think he is hunky dory. Airhead and Frum looked like deer in headlights - can't disown Chucklenuts but can't continue the BS without getting covered in DimSon's crap.

13. Jack Kingston He's from a neighboring congressional district.
Can't stand him. Our congressman is John Barrow and only marginally better. He has a d next to his name but votes with the repubs every single time.

12. Obama answered the question about his patriotism brilliantly today in Ohio...
Edited on Sun Feb-24-08 01:26 PM by polichick
First he chuckled at the silliness of such things, then went on to talk about attacks re his name, not wearing a flag pin, and not covering his heart while singing. Made the claim look as ridiculous as it is.

18. A politician wearing a flag pin is essentially an empty, pandering gesture these days.
I mean, it's All Hands On The Deck Of Outrage if a politician DOESN'T have one.

But maybe that's just me; I've never been a big fan of wearing my patriotism on my sleeve. Nor pinned to my jacket.

19. Could you imagine if he came out wearing that pin
It would immediately attract comment, and he could remind people that his oath as president is to uphold the Constitution. No one could criticize him for wearing a US Constitution lapel pin.

21. I feel that wearing a pin cheapens your patriotism. Any fool can wear a pin. I am patriotic
Edited on Sun Feb-24-08 04:32 PM by IsItJustMe
because I say so. I live here. I have a vested interest in seeing that 'me' and 'mine' do well. It's that damn simple. All the rest is superficial. You don't have to wear your patriotism on your sleves to be patriotic.
