This guy could cost us the election again. I encourage everyone out there to call up his campaign, write letters and tell him to drop out.

He claims he has this platform that neither party listens to, wants to start a third party like they have in Europe. Problems exist with this

1) we don't have a parliamentary system. In europe, if you get 5% of the vote, you still will be represented in Parliament under proportional representation. not so under our system.
2) no grass roots. Nader comes out of the woodwork every 4 years to run for president, being an ego maniac claiming it is because he disagrees with both parties. If that is true he should work on the grass roots, getting people that think like him elected to local, state offices. build up a true party.
this is the way a third party is built. He cares not about this
3) He stands no shot of winning. All he will do is cost the democratic party the election, again.


If you want another 4 years of war, neo-cons, then vote for McCain, because by voting for Nader you are doing the same thing.

If you really want a change then vote for the Democratic candidate.

1. Get Really Real

Nader never cost anyone an election.

Gore received the most votes in Florida and the whole country in 2000 -- Bush/Cheney STOLE that election.

In 2004, Nader was totally irrelevant.

Today, Nader is a parody of himself ... he is becoming a political joke.

Finally, a better attitude is to understand that in the United States of America, votes don't belong to one party or another. All left of center votes don't belong to the Democrats; all right of center votes don't belong to the Republicans.

Individuals can vote the way they want for whatever reason they want ... the 'spoiler' argument is disingenuous. Candidates and parties have to make their case and persuade, that's the process of democracy.

So, chill about Nader ... unless you think his persuasive abilities are so strong that voters in November will prefer him to Obama.

I personally don't think that will be the case.

6. if nader had not run

voters for him would have gone to Gore 2-1 in florida.
With him in there, if all the votes were counted, Gore's margin of victory would have been small, small enough for the republicans to still steal it.
If Nader had not run there would have been no small edge of victory, it would have been an overwhelming victory for Gore. A edge that could not have been stolen.


There are enough people here on DU that say that they will vote for Nader and did so in 2000 and 2004.


We cannot let this man be a tool of the republican party again. Tell him to drop out of the race before he even really gets in it.

2. It's almost certainly pissing in the wind (PITW) to try to get Nader NOT to run & ...

surely an F* You Nader attitude is completely unlikely to persuade him, even if, as I think isn't the case, he were persuadable.

I think that, as in 2004, emphasizing that if you REALLY want to "Get Real and Get Out" of Iraq, voting for Nader is perverse and other similar points should be sufficient to keep him from being relevant. And I think we definitely have a more attractive (to authentic progressives like myself) candidate than in 2004. I also do NOT support the measures taken by the Democrats in some instances to keep Nader OFF the ballot in some states, including some methods worthy of Repukes.

This election poses a stark contrast, and as long as the public is potently reminded on a daily basis -- McCain = staying in Iraq, costing TRILLIONS to an economy already in crisis -- Obama should be able to win handily, and hopefully the Democrats can EXPAND our hold in both houses of Congress.

5. My problem..

The problem I have with Nader is, and this could be a media spin problem not a Nader problem, that when ever I see him in the media when he is running for President he only seems to attack the Democrats. I realize that the Democratic voters is who is going after but if he held truly liberal/progressive views he should want to make sure that if he doesn't win the Democrats do. If you are running Ralph be fair and act like you are running against both major party candidates not just the Democratic nominee.
