This isn't the time to be hounding Hillary fans to support the nominee
The primary season is still ongoing and we have yet another debate on Tuesday night

Most will end up supporting Obama as the nominee, should he win, after a period of time.

The "I'll never vote for .... " is a fairly common sentiment during a divisive primary fight.

We have many months to go until November.

I have seen just as many Obama supporters, over the past few months, say they would "NEVER" vote for Hillary, as I have seen the reverse.

Now, because Ralph Nader, egotistical vermin that he is, pops up and says he's running, we get a slew of Hillary bashing posts demanding fealty to the eventual nominee.

I will more than energetically support Obama if he wins our nomination, as seems likely.

I guarantee you that many angry Hillary supporters will follow suit over the next few months, as their anger subsides and their priorities reemerge.

But to hound them now and demand support for Obama is truly despicable.

This is written to the minority of Obama supporters who have written these rabid, asinine posts. I'm fully cognizant of the fact that most Obama supporters aren't dishonest and divisive.

1. Thanks for this
People who post demanding that everyone get on the Obama bandwagon RIGHT NOW, or you're Not A Real Democrat are doing their candidate no good, and very possibly harm. That goes for those who demand that Hillary drop out, now. Or Else.

A lot of the anger against Obama comes not because of the candidate himself, but because of some of his more rabid, arrogant supporters, who tend to drown out by sheer volume of posts the good guys in the Obama camp.

2. As an INSISTENT Obama supporter, I say that the approach of this post is what we need MORE of ...
And yes, we should all be thinking strategically/tactically about a united party for November.

McCain staying in Iraq till the cows come home, spending TRILLIONS of dollars more on this debacle? You know this country has a strong system, one not easily likely to collapse the way the USSR did in part as a result of Afghanistan (BUT NOT due to the Reagan military buildup, mythmongering protestations to the contrary notwithstanding), but there's not an INFINITE amount of W Bush type politics that even this system's (which as an unapologetic socialist, I want to see DRASTICALLY transformed) remaining Constitutional aspects are not INFINITELY resilient

4. I'm aware of that. I was for Edwards and I needed some time to regroup
when he pulled out of the race. She isn't even out at this point and it's pointless and
counterproductive to hassle people who are just as invested in their candidate as I am in
mine. I would hope that if Hillary pulls it out, that Hillary supporters will give me a chance
to get over my disappointment too. It's only fair.

:hi:

5. The whole thing is very selective
it's too easy to go through DU, pick out an inflammatory post and then assign the poster's agenda to all the supporters of the candidate the poster supports.

We could do that with virtually every candidate, since there were the occasional unhinged supporters of each.

It's both dishonest and divisive. And, as you say, counterproductive and pointless.

Should Hillary pull it out (something which I don't expect to happen) I would hope you would take all the time you need to come around to supporting her. I realize loyalties don't change overnight and the least we could do would be to give you the respect and space you deserve to let you come to your own decisions in your own time.

6. When will it be time? March 5?
I'm just wondering when Clinton's supporters ought to start pressuring Clinton to end it.

11. about the time Obama wins enough delegates to
be nominee, then Clinton should gracefully concede. She is about 100 delegates behind with about another 1000 or so needed to win the nomination. Obama looks strong right now. I would lose respect for Clinton if she was a quitter with so many delegates yet to be won.

10. What both sides need to do is be respectful to the other side
We are all Democrats, so let us be respectful to each other and to the candidates. Direct attacks towards McCain and Nader and the Republicans/Conservatives. They are the true enemy, not Obama or Hillary. Campaign for your candidate, but don't tear down the other one or their supporters.

13. HILLARY!
Face it, we thought she was inevitable, and so we were lazy. Now you wonder where we're coming from.
