I heard both Obama and Hillary's responses to Nader's getting in
Edited on Sun Feb-24-08 03:13 PM by senseandsensibility
and I don't know why exactly, but I was stunned that they were both so negative. I guess I expected them to be diplomatic, or to try to appeal to his voters in some way.

For those of you who didn't see it, Obama said (paraphrasing) that Nader thinks a lot of his own ideas and basically wants everything his way, and Hillary said that Nader kept us from getting the greenest President we have ever had (again paraphrasing.)

Disclaimer: I am NOT a Nader supporter, and blame him for the last eight years of chimp. He lost me completely even before that when he said there was no difference between Al Gore and *. I agree with both Obama and Hillary's statements, but I was still surprised by them.

1. They have no responsibility to be friendly towards a non-Democratic candidate.
It's as simple as that.

9. They probably could had been more negative
Like a statement that Nader is barely a blip on the radar in this presidential race not worth mentioning

His impact on the 2004 race was greatly reduced from the 2000 campaign and he will be even less of an impact in this campaign. He didn't make it on the ballot in all the states and he won't make it this time either.

Will the Green Party endorse him? Will the Reform Party? Who will waste their time with him?

2. I didn't think they were very negative.
I took Hillary's words as rather dismissive, and Obama's as diplomatic. It's true enough that nobody is 'pure' enough to meet Naders standards. Personally I think he's a drag on the green party.

17. is there still a green party?
if Republicans don't bankroll them they have no resources since they never bothered to build any grassroots support. Greens=deluded republican enablers.

3. I'm not surprised. Why shouldn't they tell the truth about Nader?
As Hillary said, if not for Nader, the * catastrophe would never have happened.

4. "appeal to his voters in some way"...
:wtf:

What voters? Anybody who votes for this clown needs a Hillary scolding.

5. I know, I know...
:-) I thought of that as I was typing, but the fact is that a few hundred votes cost us FLA and the election in 2000. There will always be a few deluded and overly idealistic voters who will vote for Nader.

8. No, a few Supreme Court justices cost Gore Florida...
...and other Dems didn't help either when not one would stand and assist the Congressional Black Caucus efforts to bring it under further scrutiny.

There's plenty of blame to spread all around on that one, far beyond just Nader.

11. Nader is the enemy
It's clear Nader's goal is to keep liberals and Democrats out of office. As such there is zero reason to be nice to him. It's time Nader got the treatment he deserves.

12. Both statements are truths that people who could vote for Nader need to know.
Not surprising at all.

13. What does Nader do besides appear every 4 years then disappear 'til 4 years later?
He's doing this for his own ego and nothing more. Nobody owes him anything.

14. He spends the money the Republicans give him for running?
Great job if you can get it. Show up every 4 years, collect your cash and go on a nearly 4 year vacation.

16. Probably so!
What an egomaniac. Still in denial about him costing Gore the election.

15. I want to slap the sh1t out of Nader and all his supporters. I can't blame them
for having a nasty response. If he fcks the dems over and causes McCain to win, when the fck will we leave Iraq? And how soon can we expect to bomb Iran? I'm sorry but the gloves are off towards Nader and any filth POS who support him.
