And anyone that thinks that the small towns don't count in this needs to review which Texans actually made the difference during the last Presidential election. Hint: It was NOT the metro areas. It was the rural areas.

(The Paris News voices its choices for Democratic and Republican candidates for president, U.S. senator and District 4 U.S. representative beginning today with presidential endorsements followed Monday with U.S. Senate selections and Tuesday with U.S. House choices. This newspaper does not make endorsements in local races.)
The Paris News goes with experience in our endorsement of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton as Democratic nominee and Sen. John McCain as Republican nominee for the presidency in the upcoming March 4 Texas primaries.
Although we recognize the appeal both Obama and Huckabee have with voters, and we view both men as credible presidential candidates, we believe Clinton and McCain the most seasoned choices, ready to lead in foreign policy and ready to meet the daunting challenges that face this nation on the domestic front.
Obama certainly has the charisma necessary to unite and rally Americans toward a common cause, but he lacks Clinton’s expertise both on the campaign trail leading to a General Election and in dealing with Washington-style politics. Clinton served eight years as an active and influential first lady followed by a stint in the U.S. Senate where she served on the Armed Forces committee and gained the respect of her peers. If elected president, Clinton will do what she has done all her life — throw herself into her work wholeheartedly.
