Read this. Read it. There are conservative groups that openly worked for and with Nader.

http://journals.democraticunderground.com/madfloridian/33

In 2004, Howard Dean called Nader out on his corporate ties, getting help to be on the ballot...help from anti-gay groups and conversative Republican groups.

http://journals.democraticunderground.com/madfloridian/907

Salon ran several articles on Nader's funding. Here is one.

http://dir.salon.com/story/news/feature/2004/07/14/naderphonecall/

And from Joe Conason at Salon.

http://dir.salon.com/story/opinion/conason/2004/06/29/nader/

That last one is called "Nader's "illegal" GOP backers"

Don't be deceived by him again.

1. yes, this is a tactic of the republicans they use it in state
elections all the time, by supporting the green party or others. They did not like it when "ross perot gave the presidency to clinton" by running a third party campaign and divided the republican vote. It made them livid, and they have been using this tactic ever since.

5. There are Naderites here?
I haven't seen any.

What I have seen are some DUers who question whether Nader is the main reason Gore did not become President in 2000 and think he is too irrelevant this year to be any kind of threat to the presumptive nominee.

I am one of those people.

I support Obama.

6. Thanks for the great post!
And I like your new twist on the word "conservative" (albeit a minor typo): conversative! Even the old-line conservatives would agree that the neocons in charge should probably be called by that name.

8. From the Dean/Nader debate in 2004 after Dean dropped out.

"Howard Dean wasted little time getting to the point in a debate with third-party presidential candidate Ralph Nader on Friday. After listening to Nader's standard posturing about how only he can save the Democratic Party and the nation from the "corporate interests" that have consumed politics and government, the former Vermont governor struck hard: "Ralph, I think you're being disingenuous about your candidacy this year."

In his rapid-fire delivery, the onetime Democratic presidential front-runner rattled off all the ways he saw Nader as a hypocrite: Nearly half the signatures Nader gathered in a failed attempt to get on the Arizona ballot were from Republicans. A significant amount of his campaign kitty comes from Bush-Cheney donors. And, said Dean, "you accepted the support of a right-wing, fanatic Republican group that is antigay in order to help you get on the ballot in Oregon" -- a reference to the Oregon Family Council, which produces a "Christian Voter Guide" and campaigns against gay marriage.

"This is not going to help the progressive cause in America," Dean continued. "The thing that upsets me so much about this is, you have the right to ... get in bed with whoever you want to, but don't call the Democratic Party full of corporate interests. They have their problems, we all have ours, none of us are pure. And this campaign of yours is far from pure."

Dean's riff was greeted with gleeful applause, and Nader appeared momentarily shaken by its ferocity. Dean insisted, "My purpose here is not to smear Ralph Nader," which prompted Nader to respond sarcastically, "Oh, no. Not at all!"

10. Well, it's too bad Nader's policy insights aren't matched by poltical savvy
And he's not going to get a significant number of votes

But Nader didn't cause our 2000 "loss" -- and to blame Nader merely distracts attention from our real enemies

11. I remember watching this in real time
Dean NAILED him, and I too applauded gleefully.

Nader's attempts at presenting himself as pure were shredded in public that day, and Nader was caught completely off-guard. And no, Dean didn't smear him; he told the truth. To paraphrase Truman, he didn't give him hell, he told the truth and Nader thought it was hell.

17. "Nader's Dubious Raiders"...aka the AZ ballot drive....funded by FAIR
FAIR is an anti-immigrant group.

http://www.prospect.org/cs/articles?articleId=7954

"Exclusive: Ralph's Arizona ballot tactics are worse than this week's Democratic lawsuit alleges. Some petitions piggybacked on a reactionary anti-immigrant initiative -- and others were paid for by a former executive director of the state GOP.

Max Blumenthal | June 25, 2004 | web only

Moreover, according to several sources, the signature-gathering drive for PAN is mostly funded by the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), a Washington-based anti-immigrant group that has spent tens of millions in the last two decades to roll back the rights of both legal and illegal immigrants living in the United States.

The Arizona ballot drive was never the grassroots effort that Nader characterizes his campaign as. In trying to garner the 14,694 signatures necessary to get on the Arizona ballot, the Nader campaign first unsuccessfully solicited a Republican consulting firm to handle its ballot-qualification bid. This spring, as droves of professional petitioners descended on Arizona like traveling carnival folk to gather signatures for PAN -- and to collect the $2–4 that a petitioner is awarded for each signature delivered -- they also presented signatories with the Nader petition, according to several sources. This petition piggybacking helped Nader get more than the amount of signatures he needed to qualify for the ballot -- most of them from Republicans. In fact, according to a volunteer for the Arizona Democratic Party who has reviewed Nader's signatures, of the more than 21,000 signatures Nader garnered, a whopping 65 percent percent came from Republicans, compared to 18 percent from Democrats."

Here is more about the anti-immigrant group called FAIR, which gave birth to the CIS.
