It was not bitch is the new black in any racial sense, but that's apparently how some people here are taking it.

Bitch is the new black is a fashion statement...it's always fashionable to be wear black...you can't go wrong with a little black dress...Tina was saying that it's "in" to be a bitch.

Honestly...

1. Question: Is TIna actually a HRC supporter?
I know, I know--but talking up someone on a TV comedy show (in a fairly toungue-in-cheek way) and officially endorsing her campaign aren't really the same thing.

3. I think it's a business decision
Hillary is better for the comedy business than Obama is.

7. She might not an official supporter...if you saw the whole skit...
...the women's news before this was about Lindsay Lohan and Kirstie Alley, so you can see it was showing how absurd it is that women like these make the news.

11. That was interesting, re:Lohan...

Tina Fey gave Lindsay her first big break as an adult ("Mean Girls"), and invited her on SNL--what--THREE times before she was even 21 or something? It's pretty clear that Tina was a huge supporter...

Now, she's mocking her. An unworthy protege, by anyone's measure.

13. Yeah, well Lindsay's easy to mock these days...
I actually think she's a decent actress, but needs to get her shit together before she has no career at all.

16. Decent actress?
She was a decent actress before she got cast as adults instead of teenagers. It's all been downhill from there, in my opinion.

17. she was decent in mean Girls...that remake of her playing twins...
...she was especially good in that...as a child she was able to maintain a British accent...even Tom Cruise and Kevin Costner weren't up to that!

2. Maybe it's a generational thing
"_____ is the new black" is a catch phrase and snowclone used to indicate the sudden popularity or versatility of an idea at the expense of the popularity of a second idea. It is also the origin of a snowclone of the form "X is the new Y".

~snip~

In the late 1970s, the phrase "X is the new neutral" was widely used (culminating in the humorous observation that "It looks like red is the new neutral"). By the early 1980s this had changed to "X is the new black".<1>

Later in the 1980s, the phrase was reappropriated to indicate that other colors (frequently brown, navy blue or grey) were temporarily displacing black's position in fashion or industrial design (as a versatile staple that complemented all other aspects and was generally unobjectionable). The phrase quickly became lampooned for its simplistic nature; The Wall Street Journal soon declared that "White is the new black". It soon degenerated into a complete cliché and is now used in a great variety of contexts, mostly ironic in nature.

4. Probably didn't see the whole thing...
...it was so obvious to me...I can't see how anyone could see it differently unless there's a major chip on that person's shoulder.

how women are reported in the news...especially Hilary.

Some comebacks are almost impossible to suppress, and I'll just leave it at that.

14. It had a double meaning. That's why it was a joke.
Tina is anything but stupid. She knew it would be taken both ways and wouldn't have said it if she hadn't meant it to be taken both ways.

15. No, I don't agree at all that it could be taken both ways...
Tina is very smart and if she thought reasonable people would be offended she wouldn't have said it...it was a fashion statement...nothing more.

18. She's a comedy writer. She (mildly) offends people all the time.
It wouldn't have been a joke if it didn't have a double meaning.

But there's no sense arguing about it because obviously we aren't going to convince each other.

22. Obviously...but at the end of the skit Tina was calling herself a bitch...
...and being very proud of that fact...it wasn't in reference to any type of media treatment HRC was getting.

24. The Thing That Was The Most Funny To Me...
That they were poking fun at the whole campaign. The Hillbots here last night just didn't get it. In the opening skit Hillary (Amy Poehler) said she was holding on to her base, 80 year old white women, at least just under 50% of them anyway. Satire is a little over the heads of some.

there 'cause of pure talent, or is she saying they do so simply because they are "bitches"? Well that and a little lip-gloss?

Not sure why this is seen as a good image to promote.
