*BIZARRO* NBC reports Obama "cult" remarks are directed at Clinton campaign NOT the press
This was amazing to watch. Three weeks or so after the statement or implication that Obama followers are in a "cult" or a "cult-like" organization the media seems to think that they can turn this into a point that Obama is making against the Clinton campaign. The "cult" line was (to my knowledge) in the New York Times (Krugman even), LA Times, Washington Post, CNN, Fox News, and MSNBC...basically everyone was dropping this into reports on Obama after Super Tuesday.

Was this talking point created by the Clinton campaign? The RNC et al? or a press who simply have no other explanation for the people liking someone from outside the castle walls of DC?

No link yet (emailing this to ThinkProgress and MediaMatters) but it went something like this:

He "tried this out" in Thursday's debate
(cut to footage of Obama mentioning how "some people" think that his followers and campaign workers have been "duped")

"it has EVEN made it into this STUMP SPEECH"
(cut to footage of Obama at an event in Texas)

NOW it has made it over seas
(show "The Sun" -I think, it was some tabloid paper- with "...cult-like" excerpted and portrayed front and center)

2. I think they expect the press to blame themselves. Oh, this is going to be good.

3. key difference, hilly screws it all up and Obama
responds swiftly and with accuracy. Isn't it yet clear that Hilly doen't know how to be an effective candidate? Look how she's fucked up all the huge advantages she had. Kind of fun watching her go down though.

4. If a talking point you have never seen before suddenly appears in dozens of sources
overnight, then it was most likely created by someone's campaign. Whether it was Hillary's campaign or McCain's, we don't know, but it was someone's.

7. Yes most likely
I think Joe Klein was tasked with getting this out first and then everyone reported as if it were established fact.

5. The report was biased in favor of Obama
The attacks were portrayed as unfair and Obama's refutations were prominent.

I hope the media stays on Obama's side after he gets the nomination.

8. Hillary should make it clear in the next debate where certain attacks originated
Edited on Sun Feb-24-08 08:02 PM by jasmine621
against Obama and she should let folks know that she is really tired of her campaing being blamed for attacks they did not start. It is another form of smearing Hillary without having to prove anything.

Maybe that's why their first thoughts go there.

13. Posts like this are one reason why so many people find the campaign to be cult like
Inability to critically think- or accept valid criticms and feedback, and attacking the messenger instead.

Classic cult behavior.

14. I agree that posts like YOURS are the reason Hillary fans accuse others of such nonsense.
No one has ever accused Hillary supporters of being able to think critically, and your post proves you can't.

Run along, now. Daddy's busy.

15. Proving my point!
It's ALWAYS about the other- Hillary in this case, rather than the very valid criticisms that Krugman (or anyone else) makes about Obama's policies.

As some of my Aussie friends have noted (and asked me to explain) it's more about the personality, than the policies.

16. Hey I like Krugman..
... but he's not perfect and he's wrong on this one.

We don't need HRC. And she's going to lose, thank goodness.

17. People assume he supported Hillary
just as they think I do! LOL.

(from reading his articles, he sounded more like an Edwards supporter to me- with respect to policy).
