54.8% of Republicans in Illinois approve of Obama's job as senator
Edited on Mon Feb-25-08 04:24 AM by I Vote In Pittsburgh
I was digging through some polls, and I found something interesting. A poll done on June 2007 in Illinois showed the following:

We already knew that Democrats approved of Obama -- and 87% in Illinois approve of his performance as do 69% of Independents. But the shocker is that by a margin of 54.8% to 29.6% Illinois Republican voters support the job Sen. Obama is doing.

Most political figures would be thrilled to have a 54.8%-29.6% job approval statewide -- just ask Gov. Blagojevich. But Sen. Obama has those job approval numbers among his home state voters from the opposing party.

This further proves that Republicans voting for Obama are true cross-overs. The conspiracy theory that massive amounts of Republicans are voting for Obama because he's the weaker candidate is clearly delusional.

2. Even the overall approval rating is impressive

Not many senators have 73% approval ratings. Even back in 2005, he was the #3 ranked senator in terms of approval: http://www.surveyusa.com/100USSenators0805SortedbyNetApprovalScore.htm

3. 54% of Illinois Republicans aren't going to support Obama in the GE against McCain.
And even if a good portion do, there's no reason to believe they would vote a straight Democratic ticket.

There can be a difference between approving the job someone is doing for IL and believing that same person should be promoted to president.

5. Your proof is BS. Most voters in most states approve of the incumbent.
All politics is local. It is why incumbents are returned, year after year. More than a few Senators get well over sixty percent of the vote as incumbents. That's not all "one party" voting for them. People vote for the reps who bring home the bacon.

Obama didn't have any heavy duty GOP competition in IL, either...he ran against Alan Keyes, after all. And they IMPORTED him from MD.

Who are the GOP in IL gonna put up against him? Of course he's going to do well in his home state.

How you can suggest that somehow "extrapolates" beyond his own home state is ....DELUSIONAL. To use your word.

Or at the least, to be kind to you, entirely unsupported by the paltry evidence you yourself have provided.

6. Apparently Republican voters are doing both.
From the research I've been privy to, Republicans are voting for Barack and against Hillary; they like him and despise her.

8. Obama's overwhelminging support by Democrats, Republicans and Indies in Ilinois means something
It means Obama really is a uniter. It means the more voters get to know him, the more they like him.

Sometimes leadership, sound judgment, and inspiration can appeal to the best part of all population segments, and those who lack all of those qualities truly resent it.
