To all women who say they won't vote in the GE
Edited on Mon Feb-25-08 06:50 AM by thesubstanceofdreams
if Hillary is not the dem nominee, I ask you to consider the following: if McPain wins, the SCOTUS will turn fundie for decades to come. Roe vs Wade will be dead. The right to go to a pharmacy and get a prescription filled will be under serious attack. Women's rights in general will go back many many years.

I think the US SHOULD have a female president sooner than later. But if the democratic voters, including millions of women, decide that Obama is the nominee this year, you should still keep fighting for women's rights - and nothing could be more damaging to women's rights than a McPain presidency.

This post is in response to the following: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=4748085&mesg_id=4748085 .

1. McPain?
Are you addressing grown women or junior high school aged girls who get a kick of out silly nicknames?

I'm addressing all women (and men) who say they won't vote for the dem nominee if it's not a female.

Thanks.

5. I would not want to have to explain to my granddaughter why
she has no control over her own body or, to any grandkids, why their phone conversations are monitored. I guess I'd have to say that I stayed home in 2008 and the country was lost as a result.

6. Sure
1. I am a woman and I will vote in the general election whether or not there is a female candidate for president.

2. In my real, daily, physical life, I have never heard one single woman of voting age say she would refuse to vote in the general election if there was not a female candidate for president.

3. I agree with the points you made in your OP. I just wish you could have made them without stooping to unnecessary name-calling.

I'll leave it at that.

8. Thanks!

I ALWAYS refer to McCain as McPain. I respect your disagreement, but just wanted to clarify that it's not only in this post.

:hi:

9. Honestly...
I admit to being non-plussed in general by the nasty word games people are playing with candidate names in this forum right now.

That said, I appreciate your patience and your candor with me. I look forward to reading more of your posts.

:)

7. the supreme court of the united states is "fundie" and has been so since GWB turned it that way.
Edited on Mon Feb-25-08 06:59 AM by flordehinojos
so ... your appeal does not work with me. the right to go to a pharmacy and get a RX filled, under attack? Big Brother has been well, alive and kicking since the Bushes got into the business of politics and more especially so with Jr... as for Barack Obama his support is heavily padded with Republicans right now who will turn back to McCain in the national elections if, as it seems, Barack manages to manipula and spin his way into the national ticket.

Your appeal should not be to those who will not vote in the GE if Hillary isnot on the ticket.

Your appeal should be to all those who think Obama is a straight shooter who has a chance to win a GE on a primary win which is heavily padded with Republican votes.

Obama is the most disingenuous figure on the political since GWB ... too bad many will find out about that after it is too late ...

O, and by the way ... i will not vote for Barack Obama, nor will i vote for john mccain. i guess i am one of those who will not vote if hillary is not on the ticket (and will only cast a vote if hillary is not on the ticket for cynthia mckinney if her green party candidacy happens to make it to my state's ballot.)

10. Anyone on this board who would either not vote
or vote for someone other than the Dem nominee in the general is just daft!

This is a national election to choose the President of the United States and determine the direction of the SCOTUS for years to come. It is not a feel good junior high school popularity contest. It is not a sand lot softball game where you get to take your glove and go home because you didn't like the way someone stole second. This is basic American Citizenship!

Having to vote "the lesser of two evils" is not cool, but it is sometimes the only choice there is.

Act like grownups!

15. I don't take orders and I don't respond positively to insults.
All these "threats" and negative digs are working against you pal. We know all the arguments for holding our nose in November. Whether we do or not is OUR PERSONAL decision and has NOTHING to do with you.

22. I'm not ordering you to do anything
I'm simply saying that their are choices in life. Sometimes the choices suck.

And actually, my comments were rather mild, considering some of the juvenile behavior I have seen on this forum, pal

I was prepared to hold my nose and vote for her . . . until this morning.

19. You're absolutely right that we can't allow McCain to win, no matter who the Democratic
nominee is. If the Supreme Court gets any worse, we'll be living a fundie hell hole.

that Obama cannot win without the dem base (especially women) ...shoulda thought about that before backing him. Too late now.
