The Drudge Headline might well be intended to smear both Clinton and Obama
Edited on Mon Feb-25-08 01:42 PM by enki23
Anyone consider that possibility out there? It may or may not be that a Clinton campaign staffer (either under orders to do so or not) tried to circulate that photo. Frankly, I wouldn't put it past some of the people she's surrounded herself with in this campaign. However, we don't actually have any evidence that is true. All we have, so far, is the shameful refusal to deny it. That seems, at least in the public perception (of those few who actually follow such things) to mean they know the allegations are true, or at least that they are afraid they might be.

But none of that might really matter. Because, in the end, this smears both of them. It smears Hillary, because it adds yet another bit of evidence, real or simply perceived, that she is running a dirty race. That perception might be one I tend to share, but that doesn't mean I don't recognize that some people would like to push that perception even further. And it smears Obama, for obvious reasons. He's already been targeted by smears meant to imply that he is actually a secret Muslim. Pretending that isn't the case just makes a person look like a disingenuous asshole. That is, of course, the official stance Hillary and her campaign have taken. And that makes them look like disingenuous assholes, further serving to "smear" them, I suppose. However, they may not have much choice. It also wouldn't look good for people to say "Our campaign wants to assure everyone that Barack Obama isn't one of those evil, America hating Muslims." It might be that there really isn't a good position to take, though some are certainly worse than others. In my opinion, what Hillary *should* do is to categorically deny circulating that photo, but not mention a damned thing about *why* that should be something they should deny. That, I believe it should be obvious, is probably the least offensive position they could take. They haven't chosen to take it, making all this bullshit worse.

All of this, *all* of this, makes republican operatives smile with fucking glee. And I, for one, don't want to see motherfuckers like Roger Stone smiling ever again.

1. Of course no one considered that possibility....
Obama is untouchable and Clinton is the devil. Of COURSE one of her staffers would sent out an email to drudge from hillaryclinton.com to hurt Obama....without ever once fearing that it would hurt her....

It's the republicans...what is so hard to understand about that.

Man, if the Obamabots are this twisted up now, what will happen come the actualy race when the republican smear machine takes it up a few notches.

5. Are you saying that Obama shouldn't be outraged by this?
This is a combination of fear-baiting racism and it needs to be wiped out.

6. We all considered that, but it fits Hillary's slime machine pattern. Even if she isn't involved she
empowered this type of behavior.

Ready on day one? I don't think so. She has no concept of her actions having consequences that she can't predict. (not that anyone with a clue could not predict this tactic from the right)

2. Absolutely. The only winner here is Drudge
Obama might be able to salvage some victim points here, but Clinton comes off looking terrible. Of course, this could be partly her own doing. We don't know for sure yet.

7. It is possible that somebody in the Clinton campaign was dumb enough to think this was a good idea
and forwarded it to Drudge. Drudge may have run with it, thinking that he could take out two birds with one stone. In the end, though, this only serves to inoculate Sen. Obama from further attacks should he get out in front of this matter.

8. since Clinton and McCain's campaign share common advisor firm
can't see why it was meant to hurt Clinton.
