Swift-Boated Veteran For Obama
Rolling Through Texas

Take a deep breath. Or another swig. It's another week of presidential politicking in San Antonio, with presidential candidates and their surrogates washing over, through and around us.
The Republican front-runner, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., touches down in town for the first time this season Wednesday and Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., returns Friday, with more expected visits from the three-headed Clinton team-Bill, Hillary and Chelsea-on the way.

Watching the process from the sidelines this time was 2004's Democratic presidential nominee, Sen. John Kerry, who made a campaign swing this weekend to Texas on behalf of Obama.

Kerry, who won a Silver Star in Vietnam and made his service there a central theme of his ultimately losing campaign, was seen in the campaign autopsy to have been hobbled by his response to "Swift Boat" ads that questioned elements of his service.

"We should have spent more money making sure the truth got out there," Kerry conceded in a telephone interview Sunday as he was leaving the Dallas area. He says he's certain Obama would be ready for anything coming his way.

1. Obama supporters should prepare for attacks
For a good prognosis of what's about to come from the political right, one should look at Time Magazine's Mark Halperin's advice to McCain as to how to challenge Obama.

3. Kerry and other Dems have organizations now prepared for those battles the party was
unprepared for in the past. The DNC is better prepared than it was in the past, but these organizations like VoteVets will be key in forming a front line defense.
